PMP New Exam Pilot FAQs

When is the PMP pilot?

The PMP pilot dates are confirmed for 9 March 2020 through 20 March 2020. Candidates must be able
to sit for the exam between these dates to participate in the pilot.

What is tested on the PMP pilot?

This is a pilot form of the new PMP exam that will launch officially on 1 July 2020. Candidates can find
more details on the exam update webpage.

What are the incentives to participate in the PMP pilot?

The incentives for participants are a rebate and one free re-take if they fail the pilot exam. The rebate
amount is 20% off the exam fee:
 Members would get a rebate of $81 for the $405 exam fee.
 Non-members would get a rebate of $111 for the $555 exam fee.

How many people can participate?

Our goal is 600 pilot participants with global representation. Once 600 individuals have registered PMI
may discontinue further sign-up for the pilot.

What language is the PMP pilot exam in?

The pilot will be offered in English only. If a candidate wants to take the new PMP exam in a different
language, they must wait until the official launch on 1 July 2020.

How can I prepare for the pilot exam?

PMI recommends reviewing the new PMP Exam Content Outline and the list of top used reference
books.

How do I sign up for the pilot?


All you need to do is select the pilot option when you pay for your exam and take your exam between 9
March and 20 March.

When you pay for the PMP exam, there will be an option to select the new exam pilot or the current
exam. Here is a screen shot:

Will I need to fill out a different application?

No, the current application you already completed and submitted for the PMP will still be used at this
time. When you get to the payment screen, you will be able to select the new exam pilot.

How is the March pilot different from the full launch of the exam in July?

The exam is the same. However, pilot participants will not receive a pass/fail score immediately upon
finishing the exam. Exam analysis will occur for several weeks following the pilot end date, and
candidates can expect to receive their results in May 2020.
The pilot exam allows us to test new exam questions according to the new blueprint and gather data
before the new PMP exam goes live. Pilot participants will not receive a pass/fail score immediately

When will pilot participants receive the rebate?

The rebates will be processed as soon as the pilot candidates have completed the exam in March 2020.

How can pilot participants utilize the free retake?

If a pilot participant receives a fail score when results are released in May 2020, they may contact PMI
for a pro gratis retake of the PMP exam. If they want to retake the same version of the PMP exam that
they took during the pilot, they will need to retake the exam on or after 1 July 2020 when the new
version officially launches.
