Competency 001:

The teacher understands human development processes and applies this knowledge to
plan instruction and ongoing assessment that motivate students and are responsive to
their developmental characteristics and needs.

The teacher applies a developmental process of knowledge to the lesson plans. The
teacher makes the lesson plans fit the needs for all of the stages of the children’s
development.

Competency 002:
The teacher understands student diversity and knows how to plan learning experiences
and design assessments that are responsive to differences among students and that
promote all students’ learning.

The teacher plans lessons or activities so that all students are able to participate in
them. All students need to be able to learn no matter what the differences are between
another.

Competency 003:
The teacher understands procedures for designing effective and coherent instruction
and assessment based on appropriate learning goals and objectives.

The teacher needs to build lesson plans to age or grade appropriate objectives. These
lessons provide good instruction for the students’ success.

Competency 004:
The teacher understands learning processes and factors that impact student learning
and demonstrates this knowledge by planning effective, engaging instruction and
appropriate assessments.

The teacher understands the factors that affect the students learning. The teacher plans
their lessons that promote success.

Competency 005:
The teacher knows how to establish a classroom climate that fosters learning, equity
and excellence and uses this knowledge to create a physical and emotional
environment that is safe and productive.

The teacher provides an environment where students the feel comfortable. The teacher
also makes sure the students feel safe physically, and emotionally. The teacher
promotes a acceptance of the differences. The teacher is focusing, and giving their best
effort.

Competency 006:
The teacher understands strategies for creating an organized and productive learning
environment and for managing student behavior.
The teacher follows a consistent schedule as well as provides materials for students to
learn. The teacher provides excellent rules for students and keeps them aware of
consequences for disobeying.

Competency 007:
The teacher understands and applies principles and strategies for communicating
effectively in varied teaching and learning contexts.

The teacher relates to students learning abilities or disabilities and applies different
methods to instruction. The teacher communicates the lessons in ways that allows each
student to comprehend.

Competency 008:
The teacher provides appropriate instruction that actively engages students in the
learning process.

The lesson plan provides active learning for students by capturing their attention for the
entire instruction time.

Competency 009:
The teacher incorporates the effective use of technology to plan, organize, deliver and
evaluate instruction for all students.

The teacher uses the technology provided to document or display important information.

Competency 010:
The teacher monitors student performance and achievement; provides students with
timely, high-quality feedback; and responds flexibly to promote learning for all students.

The teacher keeps track of students’ success to evaluate. The teacher uses the
information to provide feedback to further student needs based on performance.

Competency 011:
The teacher understands the importance of family involvement in children’s education
and knows how to interact and communicate effectively with families.

The teacher understands that family is an important factor in student education. The
teacher is able to communicate with the student families effectively.

Competency 012:
The teacher enhances professional knowledge and skills by effectively interacting with
other members of the educational community and participating in various types of
professional activities.

The teacher seeks further professional knowledge, skills, methods, or activities. The
teacher communicates with other teachers and participates in professional growth
activities to continue development.

Competency 013:
The teacher understands and adheres to legal and ethical requirements for educators
and is knowledgeable of the structure of education in Texas.

The teacher stays up to date on rights as an educator, and student rights. The teacher
abides by standards set for educators.
