High Quality Assessment

High Quality assessment takes the massive quantities of performance data and translates that into
meaningful, actionable reports that pinpoint current student progress, predict future achievement and
inform instruction(techlearning.com)

Appropriateness of Assessment methods

Written Response Instruments-It is a type of test that requires students to select the correct response
from several alternatives or to supply a word or short phrase to answer a question or complete a
statement. It includes true-false, matching type, and multiple choice questions (Gabuyo, 2012). It
includes objective tests (multiple choice, true or false, matching type and likes) tests, essays and
checklists. This is to assess the cognitive aspect.

Product Rating Scales-a teacher is often tasked to rate products. In education,

Book reports, maps, diagrams, portfolios and the likes are some of the used products to assess students in
line to the lesson.

Performance Tests- one of the most frequently used measurement instrument is checklist. This is used
by the teacher to check certain skills or results that are expected to students to achieve by the end of
the lesson. It is an assessment in which students are asked to perform real-world tasks and demonstrate
meaningful application of essential knowledge and skills. It can appropriately measure learning
objectives which focus on the ability of the students to demonstrate skills or knowledge in real-life
situations (Gabuyo, 2012).

Oral Questioning - it is a type of assessment that is very appropriate to assess the stock knowledge and
speaking skills of the students.

Observation and self reports - these are useful supplementary when conjuction with oral questioning
and performance test.Such method can off-set the negative impact on the student brought about
anxieties during oral questioning or performance actual observation. The responses of the students may
be used to evaluate both performance and attitude. Assessment tools include sentence completion,
likert scales, checklists or holistic scales (Gabuyo, 2012).

The teacher will observe how students carry out certain activities either observing the process or
product. The behavior of students in his performance is systematically monitored, described, classified
and analyzed (Gabuyo, 2012).
Properties of assessment methods

Validity

According to Asaad and Hailaya (2004), validity refers to the degree to which a test actually measures
what it tries to measure. The validity of a test concerns what the test measures and how well it does so.

Reliability

Reliability to the consistency and accuracy of the test.It answers the question “Does the test yield the
same or similar score rankings(all other factors being equal)consistently?(Asaad and Hailaya,2004).
