1. State the momentum equation.

2. A pipe line carrying oil of specific gravity 0.8, changes in diameter from 300 mm at a
position A to 500 mm diameter to position B which is 5 m at a higher level. If the
pressures at A & B are 19.62 N/cm2 and 14.91 N/cm2 respectively discharge is 150 litres /s.
Determine the loss of head and direction of flow.
3. What do you understand by the following terms
a. Major & Minor Energy Loss b. Total Energy Line c. Hydraulic Gradient Line d. Pipes
in series e. Pipes in parallel f. Equivalent pipe
4. With neat sketch explain Reynolds Experiment.
5. What do you understand by turbulent flow? What factors decides the type of flow in pipes?
6. Derive Darcy-Weisbach Equation.
7. Calculate the rate of flow of water through a pipe of diameter 300 mm, when the difference
of pressure head between the two ends of a pipe 400 mm apart is 5 m of water. Take the
value f =0.009 in the formula

8. Two pipes of lengths 2500 m each and diameters 80 cm and 60 cm respectively are
connected in parallel. The coefficient of friction for each pipe is 0.006. The total flow is
equal to 250 litres/s. Find the rate of flow in each pipe.
9. Determine the rate of flow of water through a pipe of diameter 20cm and length 50 m
when one end of the pipe is connected to a tank and the other end is open to atmosphere.
The pipe is horizontal and the height water in tank is 4 m above the centre of pipe.
Consider all minor losses & take f =0.009 in the formula

Also draw Hydraulic Gradient Line (HGL) & Total Energy Line (TEL).

the jet strikes the plate normally with a velocity of 30 m/s.
16. A jet of water of diameter 100 mm moving with a velocity of 30 m/s strikes a curved fixed
symmetrical plate at the centre. Find the force exerted by jet of water in the direction of jet
if the jet is deflected through an angle of 120˚ at the outlet of curved plate.
17. A jet of water of diameter 75 mm moving with a velocity of 30 m/s, strikes a curved fixed
plate tangentially at one end at an angle of 30˚ to the horizontal. The jet leaves the plate at
