• This exam carries 20% weightage towards the final evaluation.
• The total allotted time includes 25 minutes for solution and 5 minutes for online
submission of the answer sheet. Manage the time accordingly. No extra time will be
awarded.

You had given a task to perform the experiment on a shaft fixed at both ends. After performing
the experiment, Display the following:
1. Objective(s) of the experiment. (1)
2. Assumption(s) of the theocratical background if
the experiment. (1)
3. How the experiment will be performed to achieve
third mode of vibration. (3)
4. The 1 m steel shaft with diameter = 0.004 m, elastic modules 200 GPa
achieved second mode with weight per length of 0.96. Calculate natural
frequency of the system. (2)
5. What if, poisons ratio changes from 0.3 to 0.5. Will it change the system? (1)
6. What will be the impact on natural frequency, diameter will change to half of the existing
and length will change to the double. (1)
