TOPIC: Geometry
STANDARD(S):
2.G.1 Identify trapezoids, rhombuses, pentagons, hexagons, octagons,
parallelograms, quadrilaterals, cubes, spheres, cylinders, cones,
triangular prisms, rectangular prisms.
Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a
given number of angles or a given number of equal faces.
OBJECTIVE(S):
The student will identify attributes of 3-Dimensional shapes (cubes,
spheres, cylinders, cones, triangular prisms, rectangular prisms)

Prezi Presentation
Comparing 3-D Shapes Worksheet
PROCEDURE:
Anticipatory set- 2D shape review video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIIidcCw92g
Anticipatory Set- On the first slide of the Prezi, I will have multiple
pictures of 3D shapes shown. Students will download the
pre/post assessment from my Weebly Website and write down
how the shapes are similar or different from one another. This
will be a pre-assessment. They can use these sentence starters for
help:
o I know that ________ is different than ___________ because…
o I know that __________is similar to _____________ because…
o This shape has _________ but this shape has ___________...
I will do a voice over of the Prezi explaining the vocabulary needed
for this lesson.
o 3 Dimensional shapes- solid figures or objects that have
three dimensions – length, width and height.
They have thickness to them
o Bases: The surface a solid object stands on, or the bottom
line of a shape
The base gives the shape its name.
ex) triangular prism has a triangle shaped base
o Faces: Flat or curved surface on a 3D shape
o Edges: Where two faces meet
o Vertices: Points where two or more edges meet.
o Cube: 6 Faces, 8 Vertices, 12 Edges
o Rectangular Prism: 6 rectangular faces, Rectangular base,
12 edges, 8 points
o Triangular Prism: 5 Faces, Base is shaped like a triangle, 9
edges, 6 vertices
o Cone: 1 circular base, 1 curved surface, 1 vertex, 1 edge
(Where base and surface meet)
o Cylinder: 2 Circular bases, 1 curved surface, no vertices, 2
edges (Where the 2 bases meet the curved surface)
o Sphere: One curved surface, No edges or vertices!
After the Prezi, the teacher and the students will download and fill
out a 3-D shapes attributes graphic organizer together. (Graphic
organizer and video of me filling it out attached in Weebly
website)
For independent practice, the student will do a worksheet
comparing two 3D shapes to decide which shape was drawn
correctly and why. (Attached in Weebly Website)
For the students’ assessment, they will do the same thing as their
pre-assessment. They will describe differences and similarities of
the 3D shapes shown. (Attached in Weebly website)
