OBJECTIVE(S):
The student will describe the importance of community services.

ASSESSMENT:
 Match the Tools to the Community Helper (attached in Weebly Site)

MATERIALS:
 Prezi Presentation
 “Match the Tools to the Community Helper” assessment
 Scissors
 Glue or tape

PROCEDURE: Social Studies Skill Builder (All procedures included in


Prezi)
 Anticipatory Set: BrainPOP video https://www.youtube.com/watch?

 The students will open the Prezi and start by watching the community helpers
BrainPOP video. We will focus more about police, firefighters, nurses, and
teachers for this lesson.
 I will do a voice over of the Prezi briefly explaining each of the four
community helpers, then the students can read the article provided for each
one.
o Police: They help enforce laws and help protect the community.

o Nurses: They help keep the community healthy by giving us medicine
or care.

 With that knowledge, the students will be assessed by cutting and matching
the objects that each worker uses under the correct category. (Step One, Use
social studies skill builders to engage and inspire your students)
 I will model the activity with pictures showing the steps of how to cut and
match the objects with the community helper. (Step 2, teach the skill through
modeling and guided practice)
 I will have a answer key at the end of the Prezi that they can look at once they
are finished, since I won’t be there to give immediate feedback. (Step 4,set
clear expectations, allow students to practice the skill repeatedly, and give
immediate feedback) Also, I skipped step three, prepare students to work in
pairs, since this is an online lesson, so the students won’t be able to work in
pairs.
 I will do a voice over at the end with the answer key, debriefing why each
object goes there, so that the students can better understand if they missed
one. (Step 5, debrief the lesson to help students make connections to key
social studies concepts)

MODIFICATION/DIFFERENTIATION:
 Screen casting and voice over.
