Lesson idea implementation: Before the lesson begins, I will describe the learning goals and
outcome for this lesson. I would project an eBook about community workers and let them
listen to it. After, I will divide students into groups of three will show students how to
navigate through PowerPoint to add words and pictures. Then, I would assign each group one
community worker that they will create a story about the worker helping the community or a
person in it. Students will be allowed to create their own side characters and storyline. Once
students have their assignments, they will have ten minutes to brainstorm what they want
their story to be about and what characters will be included in the story. I will go around to
each group to make sure the ideas and characters are appropriate and to assist students who
need help. Then, students will have 20-30 minutes to start creating their book within their
groups. Amongst themselves, they will discuss what pictures, colors, and text they will use in
their book. I will be monitoring students’ progress and be available for questions or feedback.
When students begin to have their book completed, I will show them how to save their book.
Each group will be able to present their story to their classmates to share fun stories about
community workers to help them learn more about them. To conclude the lesson, I will ask
students which community worker they would want to be and why.
Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology:
I would use co-use/co-engagement when students are creating their story. I believe it’s
beneficial for students to share new technology because they can help each other learn how
to use the tool. I will also use time limits to keep some organization to the assignment since
these are younger students. I will let them plan their story on paper first, to have a better
idea of what comes next. I will refer to the learning goal throughout the assignment to help
students stay on the right track and focus on what they are trying to create.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Microsoft PowerPoint is a tool that all students can
benefit from. It provides them with an opportunity to use their creativity skills and
imagination to show their comprehension of what they are taught. PowerPoint has
accessibility settings, subtitles for various languages, and even dark/light modes for the
background. Different audios, visuals, transitions, and animations are available for students
to use as well. Students can make choices in what colors, fonts, visuals, etc. that they want to
use to create their book. PowerPoint offers themes and designs that enhance the slides and
give students ideas of how they can present the information. These meet the UDL principles
of multiple means of representation, engagement, and action/expression.
Reflecting on enhanced learning:
I think the activities will show students the important roles and responsibilities of community
workers. They will be able to identify them and acknowledge the work they do to keep them

they can have some extravagant ideas sometimes.
