How will this lesson be implemented? Check all that apply.

×Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.

×Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.

Lesson Idea

Lesson idea implementation: Students will work to create an eBook highlighting key events
or figures of their choosing. Students will design their book using Microsoft PowerPoint and
record their voice over it so that it is accessible to all audiences. I will introduce the lesson by
showing the students my book and make them aware of the aspects of my eBook that make
it feel like a book. I will conclude the lesson by having each student present their book to the
class and discussing the key figures and events of the civil rights movement that were
presented.

Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology:
I will give students 20-30 minutes to draw up a story board so that they have a base for their
story design. I will then give them 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete their eBook using
Microsoft PowerPoint. To ensure students are staying on task I will remind them of where in
their project they should be during the allotted time. If students have questions, I will
encourage them to “ask 3” then me. If I notice the same question being asked among peers, I
will address the class to clear up any confusion.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): The UDL principle I addressed in my lesson idea is
expression. Students can creatively express themselves and Microsoft PowerPoint gives them
tools and features that assist with creative expression.

Reflecting on enhanced learning:

I think this activity enhanced student learning by giving them the chance to learn how to
design an eBook and creatively express themselves. I also think the students have a chance to
learn the versatility of Microsoft PowerPoint and all its features.
