☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

X Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to

Lesson idea implementation:

In this lesson, students will be learning about the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr,. A short class
discussion will take place before the initial lesson begins and then students will start working on their
activities. To start, the students will watch an introduction video on Youtube. Students will then be
asked to read an excerpt of the ‘I have a dream speech’ and analyze what it means. Then, students
will do a think-pair-share with another classmate or small group of classmates. A question will be
posed that they will have to answer after watching the video and reading a short passage of the ‘I
have a dream speech’. Students will then view photographs of the March on Washington and then
every student will create a page to go in the class picture book about their dreams of freedom for
Americans. The page will include pictures and a brief paragraph about what it means to them to have
freedom and the impact of Dr. King on their lives. Students will record a video of themselves talking
about their page and upload it to show to the class. Feedback will be provided at the end once their
video is submitted and shown to the class.
Managing student learning:  I believe that the tools used in this lesson will cause a shift in the
behavior of students, moving from passive to active social learners. Students will get actively
involved in tasks and concepts and learn to listen and respect other perspectives. Students will have
a discussion prior to the lesson and during the lesson, students will have a think-pair-share with
other classmates. Students will have to go through this part of the lesson prior to creating their
poster page. This requires them to actively listen and think about what their other classmates are
saying. During the think-pair-share portion of the lesson, I will also set time limits for students to
ensure they stay on task and focus.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: The main activity that I have planned for students
along with the technology tool supports all students. The UDL framework of engagement is met with
this lesson as there are multiple activities to encourage student engagement and participation. This
supports engagement because students will be engaged in their learning by creating a video to
display their understanding after participating in multiple activities and explore their creativity.
Reflection: I feel like the activities I created will positively impact student learning through activities
and discussion.Students will be introduced to a topic that they most likely will have never heard
before so I am excited to see how this will positively impact student learning. Throughout the
activities and video, students will see that he demonstrated peace in the wake of violence. I am most
looking forward to implementing the think-pair-share portion of the lesson because I am curious to
see what students will have to say about the lesson and hear different perspectives.
