direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly practice based.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of learning
and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates the learning as
the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing authentic/real-world
projects to demonstrate their learning and publish results outside of the classroom. (Note: This
objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project
to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.)
How will you connect this topic to students’ prior knowledge as you teach?
I will make a connection to students’ prior knowledge of the Golden Rule, which is “Treat others the
way you would like to be treated”; This is what Martin Luther King Jr. lived by, and this will help the
students understand Dr. King’s motives and purpose of his Civil Rights Movement.

Managing the technology:

I will provide and play videos such as BrainPOP Jr. and documentaries related to Dr. King Jr. to the
students in class, as well as giving them assignments with a set time frame to finish it so they stay
focused.

Lesson idea implementation:

This lesson will be implemented through BrainPOP Jr. There are a multitude of videos on BrainPOP Jr
about both Martin Luther King Jr and the Civil Rights Movement. This will allow the students to be
entertained by technology with the videos, where hopefully they will be more engaged. I will make
sure to create a quiz or use quizzes already offered by BrainPOP for the students to take to see their
progress and to make sure they understand the concept and are paying attention.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection:

I believe this activity will greatly impact each student’s knowledge and will also allow them to be
entertained by it. This will be available for all students because of the technology provided by the
school system. BrainPOP Jr enhances the student’s learning through educational videos and quizzes
to help make sure they learn, while the child gets feedback on what they need to work on. This tool
engages students to be more involved because of the technology provided and how students prefer
it over the old-fashioned paper and pencil. The feedback the student gets from the quizzes should
also get the child engaged so they can work on what they missed.

I believe this lesson plan will be super successful in my classroom; it should positively impact a
student’s learning because of the feedback from the quizzes, as well as how entertaining the videos
are to the student. They keep you engaged with the characters the comedy from the characters and
the interactive activities they have both during and after the video. I look forward to seeing what
questions my students may have if they did not understand a concept, so I may go back in the video
and explain it to them, and possibly dig even deeper into other sources about the topic.
