Content : Reflective Essay in the Care of Mother, Child, Adolescent ( Well
Clients)

I’ve just completed my OB rotation at the SAMCH. Then our shift was from 6AM
to 2PM. It was our 2nd duty already from this semester. During the rotation we only had
4 days to go for duty since there were 2 holidays from the duty week. Then from our
group we were assigned 2-3 patients each of us.Then we had an interview with the
patient regarding on the data for the Gordon’s. Then after the interview,I was getting
the vital signs of the mother and her baby. So far their vital signs are in normal range.
It was a challenging for me to get the vital signs of the baby because I can’t avoid the
situation that the baby is crying or murmuring and it changes the results on getting the
PR and RR.

Despite of that I still find a way to get their vital signs. Then during the interview, I did
an assessment to the mother if she feels any pain on her body then she told me that
she only felt some acute pain but it occurs in seldom. But from that week, the thing
that is memorable and big achievement for me is that aside from getting the vital signs
I was able to assist the mother on changing clothes and diaper when the baby is done
on bathing. And the baby was keep on crying so I seek an assistance from my fellow
duty mate to help the baby calm since she had already an experience on it. What I
learned from this duty that it was a challenging to handle 2 to 3 patients at a time but I
knew that it is very beneficial and useful in the future when I become a registered
nurse soon. Also I learned that we should do bedside care to the patient aside on
getting vital signs like providing the needs of the patient and having their presence with
us as student nurses.
