GENRE ANALYSIS:
Abstract

In this genre analysis paper you will discover the differences and similarities two

different types of genres have. Both genres discuss different types of AI learning systems and

how they can be used to make a business run more efficiently. At the end you will find which

genre better suits a reader who wishes to gain knowledge on this topic.

GENRE ANALYSIS:
Understanding learning techniques and algorithms of machines:

Various amounts of factors and variables come to play when a business decides to look

into technologically advance the company from a marketing standpoint. When listening to the

podcast many important points and factors were addressed when discussing the ability of

machines to learn and asses risks within businesses. Various algorithms improve the

performance and accuracy of the machines outcomes the more it is used and or tested. The topic

of discussion that the podcast pointed to first was the two different types of learning abilities that

machines were capable of. The first one was called Bachelor learning which is a more human

reliant system that many scientists use when trying to develop a conclusion.

This type of machine learning is also very customizable and can easily be adjusted to the

human liking or preference to whatever outcome/goal the human is looking to achieve. When the

podcast was discussing the process of using the bachelor learning method the speaker

continuously talked about how various amounts of environmental factors and input factors will

determine how the machine’s learning system responds at the end of the test and what the

outcome could be, positive or negative. The user can then input any adjustments or changes that

the system needs in order to fix the problems the system had in the previous run.

However, the problem with this system is that without the input and changes of the user,

the machine cannot continue to advance nor provide the best possible outcomes when put to use.

The next type of machine learning that is widely preferred and trusted is the Adaptive learning

ability. This type of machine learning has been subject to discussion on the effectiveness and

longevity of it. However, the learning system does continuously learn and is knowledgeable

when it comes to positive and negative outcomes. During the podcast the speaker revisits the fact

that the adaptive part of a machine must first be programmed by the user thus giving specific

demands and functions to the machine in hopes of the machine being smart enough to build off

of a foundation the user has set.

As long as the user sets a foundation and states what they want or desire, the machine can

then work on its own and test many variables that come through environmental factors or input

factors that the machine discovers. Furthermore, the adaptive learning ability is heavily reliant on

environmental factors being that it uses the information gained from the environment to adjust

itself which can improve the accuracy of its outcomes. Since environmental factors are always

very unpredictable and can change dramatically that is another factor that the machine learns and

adapts to and does this by running thousands and thousands of test before picking which

outcome is the best.

How AI is changing Business: A look at the limitless potential of AI

The next source that was discovered was a Ted Talk video that discusses how a theory

about an AI system can predict, innovate, be efficient, and calculate different probabilities within

a call center. The speaker, who was a Data Analytics consultant at IBM, came up with an

excellent example using a call center which still today is a source of innovative technology.

Anirudh starts off by giving us a scenario in which he describes us as being an unsatisfied

customer calling the company in which the product we bought it from. As we all know,

whenever we call big companies or corporations the first thing we hear is a greeting that says

“this call may be recorded or monitored for quality assurance purposes” which is implemented in

the event a customer calls to complain or report an issue with a particular product.

Now when a customer is un-happy or has a complaint to make and the call representative

receives that information, the call is then recorded to be reviewed by a manager to see in detail
5
GENRE ANALYSIS:
what the call was about. The only problem is that this process takes anywhere from 15 to 30 days

per customer in order to get their call reviewed or looked at. Being that this process takes time

for the customer to receive feedback from the company by the time the customer does they have

either already moved on to a different company or product or have no more interest in hearing

back from the company. During the talk the speaker then discusses how implementing an AI

system within the calling system can increase company response time from 10+ days down to

only 10 mins. The way he theorized this type of AI system to work was by using soundwaves

based off of the customer tone throughout the call.

The higher and spikey the soundwaves are the more upset or angry the customer is. By

using the soundwaves the AI system will then determine what mental state the consumer is then

generating a series of questions that the manager or administrator can then see and ask when

calling the consumer to give feedback. By doing this and implementing this type of AI generated

system the company can efficiently and effectively give feedback to customers faster by giving

faster the feedback not only will the customer feel more of a priority but the company can also

receive the customers business once again if they come to an agreement. An increase in

administrator feedback to the customer overall will make the company run efficiently and

increase morale.

Comparison

Between the two genres both of them have attributes that discuss the same argument

within the same genre of business. The main topic of both genres is the argument about how

effective and efficient companies can perform when they implement various types of AI

information systems. Within each genre AI is spoken about a lot throughout their discussions and

the information stated varies within them. Both genres push towards making a business or

GENRE ANALYSIS:
company run much more efficient rather than staying stagnant with their processes and no

development.

The speakers in the podcast and the ted talk seem very knowledgeable on what they are

talking about with the podcast speaker writing numerous books on business AI and receiving

numerous amounts of recognition for his work and with the host of the ted talk having hands on

experience being that he was a Data Analytics consultant at IBM. The adaptive learning system

and the system that was discussed in the ted talk both have really similar attributes. They both,

throughout time, learn off of previous experiences they have had and lean how to then adjust

itself to give a more desired outcome. This makes the process of feedback and display much

more faster than if the work was being processed by a human.

Conclusion

In conclusion, both genres have really good information within their discussions and both

are credible sources for obtaining information. In one genre you have a podcast which was a

rather interesting way to look to increase knowledge on the topic. In the other genre you have a

ted talk video which seemed like a much more desirable way to gather information being that the

speaker sued visuals and examples within them. They both were interesting to listen and watch

because the information being provided was indeed relevant an made sense throughout their

discussions.

However, if one Is looking to improve their knowledge on this specific topic the source

must be able to export their argument effectively to the reader. By doing this information is

surely to be acknowledged and gathered thus effectively improving the readers knowledge. The

podcast is the one to choose between the two because of the amount of detail and in depth the

GENRE ANALYSIS:
speaker goes into when discussing an effective way of implementing AI into businesses. Not one

but two different types of systems are discussed and are used in easy to understand examples and

have reasoning to back up as to why one should be used in different situations of a company. The

speaker is also very credible with numerous books and chapters written which are all geared

towards improving the efficiency of running a business. More information was put out in greater

detail and focused on the main points leaving out unnecessary information.
