With a savage, clawing, brutal fight, I’ve been torn from my serene underwater cave to the vivid
surface of waves and sunlight – but I’m still gagging, choking on oxygen, still pulling my way
back down. But the anchor is lodged deep within me, tearing me down my center, and I know
now that I will not be getting away, and never will. Say goodbye to serenity! The back of my
mind has already seen my fate but my body works to oppose it. No use – it’s too late. The sun
has burned my eyes, the waves carry me away upon their high crests, and I open my lips to
inhale air for the first time.
