Roller Test

Purpose
Explain briefly but precisely what this test will attempt to determine. Explain how the test will yield objective data
regarding meeting at least one of the design goals for your product.

This test is meant to verify that the rollers of our product will work properly. We will learn how
our device will function with various amounts of weight on the ramp. This will help us determine
how viable our product is.

Pass/Fail Criteria
What are your benchmarks? Determine what would constitute a passing/failing mark or condition for this test. How
should the device respond? How will you know if the event occurs during testing?

We want the ramp to be able to easily role both ways with 300+ lbs. on it. If the ramp cannot
achieve this, it would be considered a fail. As long as the ramp can glide with any reasonable
amount of effort, we will consider it a pass. We will know the results based off how much force is
required to push/pull the ramp.

Pass – The ramp smoothly moves in and out of the truck bed with 300+ lbs.
Fail – The ramp does not slide in/out with 300+ lbs. or requires multiple people to move it.

Materials
List the tools, parts, and supporting devices that you will need to set up the equipment. Include any visual or audio
equipment necessary to document this procedure.

For this test, we will just need our product, a truck, and some weights.

Initial Conditions
Determine the conditions that must be in place prior to attempting this test. An example would be: The prototype is
completed, the device is installed properly, and power is provided to the unit.

The device is completed and installed properly in the truck bed.

Safety Concerns
Identify any potential dangers posed to people or property that could result from testing. Describe precautions that
must be taken in order to ensure the safety of the tester and others and to protect tools, equipment, fixtures, and the
surrounding facility from damage.

Hazards Controls Completed (yes/no)

ramp and rollers from the ramp

Test Termination
Under what conditions would you have to stop your testing?

If the ramp/rollers face permanent damage or if an injury were to occur.

Step by Step Procedures

List the step-by-step process describing what needs to be done in order to run this test. Be very specific so that
anyone could perform this test without additional instruction.
I. Put the truck in park and open the tailgate.
II. Slide out the ramp as far as it can go.
III. Take a 45 lb. plate and place it on the center of the ramp.
IV. Slide the ramp back into the truck bed, then back out.
V. Continue adding plates one at a time and sliding the ramp in/out each time.
VI. Stop when it becomes difficult to slide the ramp in or out of the truck bed.
