UF Units
Inlet water is fed to the Ultrafiltration Unit divided in two lines (2 x 50%) working in
parallel, each line composed by 4 x 33% UF racks (3 working + 1 stand by), with 5
membranes for each rack.

First line is composed by the vessels item MBM9765-13/14/15/16-A/B/C/D/E, the

second line by the vessels item MBM9765-17/18/19/20-A/B/C/D/E. Each vessel
contains polysulphone membranes.

Each rack is periodically washed (with clean water and also with NaClO, NaOH,
H2SO4, and CIP) in order to guarantee good working of the filtration system.
In order to avoid particles building up on the surface of the membrane, a backflush is
carried out on a regular basis. Normally the backflush time should be split in two, so
that half the time the backflush waste is taken of from the concentrate (top) side, and
the other half from the drain (bottom) side.
On a periodic basis, the ultrafiltration system will require a chemical clean, to fully
restore the membrane to a clean condition. Chemicals used for C.E.B. (Chemical
Enhanced Back flush) are Sodium Hypochlorite (disinfectant), Caustic Soda (high pH
cleaning) and Sulphuric Acid (low pH cleaning).
In order to aid the normal backflush, air displacement and pressurization is carried
out with the aim of emptying out the feed side of the fibre.
Below is reported ultrafiltration simulation for each train.

Note 1

Note 2

Note 1: The simulation is performed on the basis of the worst case with the minimum temperature.
Note 2: There is a distribution of compositions indicated in the Material Requisition for the Solo River Water, of course the software for the
simulation of the performance can get in input only key average parameters. This is the reason why in the snapshot done by the software there is
its summary.

RO Units
Reverse Osmosis Unit is arranged on two lines (2 x 50%) in a single pass, double
stage configuration to produce a total of 80 m3/h of Osmotized Water.

Two lines are always working producing 40 m3/h of permeate each one.

The first line is composed by vessels item MBM976526A/B/C/D (I stage permeators)

and MBM976527A/B (II stage permeators), the second by vessels item
MBM976626A/B/C/D (I stage permeators) and MBM976627A/B (II stage
permeators).

The filtered water is pumped to the RO unit through an high-pressure group item
PBE976525A/B and PBE976625A/B. Pressure / flow rate control is done by
dedicated flow control loops (flow transmitters item FV-976525-01 and FV-976625-
01 flow control valves item FV-976525-01 and FV-976625-01).

Below are reported two simulations of RO operation for each train. Case a) is for
inlet water temperature of 21°C (minimum operating temperature, minimum TSS
content in outlet water) and case b) is for inlet water temperature of 37°C (maximum
operating temperature, maximum TSS content in outlet water).
