FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Dear Parents,
Firstly lets all be grateful for our health, the lush bounty of
nature and our relationships.
Secondly I would join my team in thanking our school
parents in meeting us half- way to assist our dear students in
their teaching and learning schedules.
The last couple of weeks have shown resourcefulness on the
part of the whole community in terms of learning to engage
with each other in a non- physical contact mode! It drives
home the feeling that nothing will ever faze us and if life
doles out lemons, we shall proceed to make a lemonade: )
Thirdly, most of the teachers and parents are also struggling
with no domestic help and increased demands by the family
members, so lets all look out for each other during this phase
and pledge to be kinder to each other.
Lets take this time to be calm and travel within as we are unable to travel outside. Breathe easy and
breathe deep. Connect with your children more as they will tend to be stressed and irritable too.
The different cohorts of educators across the school have implemented schedules for online
engagements from the 7th April which are mindful, incorporating reading, story- telling and physical
fitness as well as some Aha and academic engagements, keeping in mind that families will also have
to plan and ration out the digital engagements for their children studying in different cohorts. Would
love your feedback on the same.
Do enjoy the musings, doodles, videos and artwork that our parent community has shared over the
last 15 days or so.

Note from the Editor

H ello and welcome to the Shiv N adar School, Gurugram newsletter. These testing times are not all
about stress and boredom; in fact, they seem to have brought out creativity in many. What makes
this newsletter special is the simple fact that it is largely an expression of the literary and artistic
talents of students, teachers and parents.
Also, our teachers have been making every effort to engage students and to ensure that learning
continues, by using online tools to connect with the children. This newsletter also gives you a
glimpse into their efforts and resourcefulness.

Learning never stops!

Early Years
The Early Years conducted storytelling sessions
via Z oom and said their goodbyes on the 17th
of M arch 2020, which was supposed to be
their last day of school. The teachers beam one
storytelling session from home daily. The H ead
of Early Years does one on one debriefing after
the teachers conduct the storytelling session
(via Z oom).
Primary School
The Primary school declared holidays from the
13thof M arch instead of the 18thof M arch.
Students said goodbye to their teachers via the
zoom classes and loved the experience.
The teachers will be having Z oom interactions
for class transition meetings and planning for
regular classes in case of continued restrictions.
Parents have been sent a reading list as well as
practice/ activity sheets to keep the children
engaged

Senior School
The new session for Grades 10 and 12 began
on 2nd M arch and the last day was the 25th.
Students have been attending online classes via
Google hangout, M icrosoft teams and Z oom
as, per the schedules shared with them.
They have had 2- 4 online sessions and off line
timed assignments to maintain continuity of
learning.
Kognity and M anagebac platforms of the IB
which enable synchronous and asynchronous
learning are being used effectively.

Middle School
M iddle school exams ended on 13th of M arch.
Some students who could not attend school
gave exams from home, keeping in mind the
academic honesty that is expected from the
students of Shiv N adar School.The PTM and
orientation for the 6th were cancelled and a ppt
for the orientation was shared with parents.
As per the timetable shared with parents and
students, teachers have been using apps like
Google Classroom, M icrosoft teams and
Z oom, to discuss marking schemes, typical
errors and model answers with students.

One calm peaceful night
When everything was fine
There came a virus which causes flu
And people did not know what to do!
With its crown like shape
It came to be known as corona
It?s spreading like a swarm of bees
And passing from being to being
With the presence of cough, cold &
breathlessness
It attacks you like a grizzly bear
People keep joining in the hospital
While some meet their end
Do not give up my friends
For many people are being cured
Together we will defeat it
For hope is not lost!
You came out of nowhere, corona

We will fight against you

Every Lock Has A Key
It started small N othing new. But it slowly
grew Into something we never knew
It became a problem with no solution, A
lock that has bound us in our homes A lock
with no key But we can change that.
Every question has an answer Every lock
has a key
But we can?t find the right one alone We
need to unite and fight This small being
Which frightens even the biggest human
being
So, let's be aware There?s no need to fear
because every lock has a key and together
we can find the right one, can?t we?

Lockdown
Alert! Alert! Everyone wash your
hands!
COVID- 19 has spread across the
lands!
Alert! Alert! N o one panic!
The outbreak will not be as tragic!
It is now a pandemic,
And because of that we are cancelling
our academics!
Alert! Alert! N obody touch unclean
metal!
COVID- 19 sticks to it, and it is lethal!
Alert! Alert! N obody touch their face!
You can be the next case!
Alert! Alert! N obody travel!
Unless you want the symptoms to
unravel
Don?t be afraid, take a test,
It?ll all be for the best!
The symptoms are fever, cough, and
shortness of breath,
Don?t worry, 80% of all people do not
achieve death!
Alert! Alert! Lockdown!
N ow, listen to me, don?t have a frown,
It?s all for the best,
So sit back and have a rest.
If you don?t do this, Earth will be
wearing a mask!
(I know it?s a very big task)

You just have to maintain personal
hygiene!
Everyone, we?re still finding a vaccine
and a cure,

Something from the grown ups!
King Of Them All!
They lived in a tortured land infested with men,
The streams ran dry and the garbage heaps swelled;
The air was thick with pollutants and smoke,
Even their homes ? the trees ? had been felled.
The M afiosi M ynahs were bursting with news
Wise Old Owl was the august Chair,
Fiesty Falcon had scooped up the latest,
It seems to be happening everywhere,
It?s time that they don?t dismiss it out of hand.?
Wise Old Owl gave it serious thought,
H e blinked his eye and nodded his head.
And finally after much deliberation,
H e began. And the Council listened to what he said.
? It seems to me, that this time,
Indeed, a Revolution has begun.
? Lead us all??, the Assembly cried indignantly,
And so they chose him as their Lord,
Their Leader and Commander Supreme,
For he alone could lead them to victory,
And deliver to them their long- cherished dream!
Enmasse they marched to the World of M en,
They laughed when they saw the weapons they had,
M asks and sanitizers and social isolation,
Behaving like Lady M acbeth, they looked quite mad!
For now, we the Uber Race, are subservient,
Unable to escape from what seems a here- to- stay,
It?s amazing to see what N ature can create,

An Ode to the Unsung Among Unsung
Heroes!!!
The current situation no living soul has personally ever seen;
A global pandemic straight out of a H ollywood movie scene.
Life as we know it, has witnessed a paradigm shift;
That we breathe, eat and live ? is a sweet sweet gift!!!
H ealth emergencies result in many a hero being born;
Attending to the sick even when their own lives are torn.
The entire medical fraternity is stretched to the limit;
Upholding the H ippocratic oath is but their only remit.
But as I sit in front of the laptop at home after a bath,
I can?t help but wonder about the nature?s wrath.
Essential services still make their way to majority of us
By the unsung among the many unsung heroes!!!
The uninterrupted mobile calls, messages which flow,
So that lines of communication are secured from the blow.
Our brothers & sisters in the Telcos are holding the fort,
So that every person can have communication of some sort.
Washing hands periodically is prescribed as a safe bet,
Running water is being ensured, do we even fret?
That a few poor souls are working multiple extended shift,
We take water for granted in these times. It?s actually a gift!
The mobile that we charge, the light with which we read,
Uninterrupted power supply is being ensured with speed.
Everyone assumes that electricity will always be there,
But a huge infrastructure is churning its wheels somewhere!
The neighbourhood grocery storekeeper, the Teller at the
Bank,Without their actual attendance, our daily lives would tank.
From the unsung garbage collector to the vegetable vendor,
Without their everyday presence, lives would be torn asunder!
H eroes abound among M edicos, Police, Armed Forces et al, But a
pantheon of unsung among the unsung is also standing tall. We all
common folks have merely ourselves to think about,
Can we all agree to gives these unsung heroes a resounding
SH OUT???

Why wash hands to fight Corona?

Why is washing your hands regularly with soap advised to stay away from getting infected by the corona
virus?

Let us find out:

For this activity you will require
1. Full cream milk in a medium sized shallow bowl
2. Two to three different liquid food colours.
3. An earbud
4. Soap solution

Steps to do:
1. Take a shallow bowl and fill it with full cream milk
2. Add one drop each of the two to three different liquid food colours in the centre of the milk in the
bowl. (You can use turmeric, ink, potassium permanganate etc. also)
3. Dip the earbud in the soap solution and touch the food colour drops in the milk.
What do you observe?
The food colour will split apart in every direction, making a beautiful pattern.
Why do you think this happens?
The soap solution rips apart the fat molecules of the milk and hence you see the food colour moving apart
with the fat molecules.
Same principle is applied in case of prevention of corona virus. Corona virus or any virus is encased in a
layer of fat and soaps break the fat apart and leave the virus incapable of infecting. H ence the most
effective way of staying healthy is to keep washing your hands with soap regularly.

You can also dip a butter paper in the milk with spread food colour and get a pattern
printed on the paper. Dry the paper and frame it.
