Advanced Biology 13.3 Questions

Question 1

The stability of an ecosystem depends on its producers because they provide the basis for an ecosystem's energy.

Question 2

The main processes that organisms use to obtain energy are Photosynthesis and Chemosynthesis.

Question 3

This pattern can be explained because since sunlight is where most, if not all the energy that an active ecosystem requires
comes from, and since organisms deep in a body of water don’t get much sunlight, there are fewer organisms that can survive.

Question 4

Without consumers, there would be too many producers and there would be much competition between them. This
would cause them to all die out over time.

Question 5

Chemosynthetic organisms can help scientists understand how life developed on Earth because not all producers depend
on sunlight for their energy. Several studies have shown that in deep-sea vents, there were several microscopic prokaryotes living
without sunlight near super-heated water.
