Questions 1-9

Question 1:

The chorus reveals that Romeo does not love Rosaline anymore, and he is now in love with Juliet; and it seems
like they will get together, the relationship will be quite dangerous.

Question 2:

Mercutio describes Romeo’s love as very passionate, and he makes fun of Romeo for loving Rosaline.

Question 3:

Mercutio and Benvolio’s assumptions are ironic because they think that Romeo is with Rosaline, when he is
really with Juliet.

Question 4:

Romeo is referring to Mercutio with that statement.

Question 5:

Romeo compares Juliet to the sun, who is at odds with the moon, the symbol of chastity. He says that she is being
held captive by the moon.

Question 6:

Since Romeo discusses both elements of nighttime and daytime, this is an example of light and dark imagery.

Question 7:

Juliet is asking “Why is your name Romeo Montague?” (since the families are enemies). In the next lines, she
demands that Romeo change his name.

Question 8:

“What man art thou that, thus bescreened in night,/So stumblest on my counsel?” (pp.73, L. 57).

Question 9:

It was extremely dangerous for Romeo to be on the Capulet’s property. If they had seen him, he would’ve been
killed/seriously hurt, given the circumstances between the two families.
