Brief Overview of Photosynthesis and Plant Respiration
• Photosynthesis is the process by which plants,
algae, and some bacteria convert sunlight, water,
and carbon dioxide into oxygen and glucose, which
is a type of sugar that serves as a source of energy
and food for the organism.

• Plant respiration, on the other hand, is the process

by which plants break down glucose and oxygen to
produce energy, carbon dioxide, and water. It
occurs in all living cells, including plants, and is
necessary for the plant's survival, growth, and
reproduction.

Brief Overview of Photosynthesis and Plant Respiration
• Both photosynthesis and plant respiration are
essential processes that contribute to the balance of
oxygen and carbon dioxide in the Earth's
atmosphere, and they are interconnected in a way
that creates a self-sustaining cycle of energy and
nutrients for plants and other organisms.

• Photosynthesis and plant respiration are

interdependent processes that are crucial for the
plant's survival. They work together to create a self-
sustaining cycle of energy and nutrients, which
enables plants to thrive and contribute to the health
of the ecosystem as a whole.

LIGHT DEPENDENT
REACTION AND
LIGHT INDEPENDENT
REACTION
LIGHT DEPENDENT REACTION
• happen in the thylakoid
membrane of the chloroplasts and
occur in the presence of sunlight.
The sunlight is converted to
chemical energy during these
reactions. The chlorophyll in the
plants absorb sunlight and
transfers to the photosystem
which are responsible for
photosynthesis.

LIGHT INDEPENDENT REACTION (CALVIN CYCLE)
• Light-independent reaction is a
series of biochemical reactions in
photosynthesis not requiring light
to proceed, and ultimately
produce organic molecules from
carbon dioxide. The energy
released from ATP (produced
during the light reactions) drives
this metabolic pathway.

Aerobic and Anaerobic Respiration
Aerobic and anaerobic respiration are two
different metabolic processes used by cells to
produce energy in the form of ATP (adenosine
triphosphate).
