Mentor Assessment #3

Shriya Thippana 03/06/2020

So far my mentor visits have been going very smoothly and I feel like I have been

learning a lot during each visit. Mr. Prince is seriously the nicest person I have ever met

and is really glad to mentor me in my topic, Healthcare Management. So far I seriously

love working with my mentor and the whole management team. I learned that being an

Administrator is really involved within the whole management team and it is not a

one-man job. We talked about my original work and he educated me more about my

original work idea. In addition to that, for my past visits, I have been put with different

members of the management team and that has really helped me with knowing the

different members of the team and what they do and how they work together.

I learned about the overall benefits of the electronic patient records which is what

my original work is about. I have always heard drawbacks of electronic patient records

but he educated me about the benefits. Mrs. Kaur, one of the administrators, talked

about how overall electronic patient records are successful because they are effective

and efficient. An obvious benefit of going digital he mentioned is the reduction of impact

on the environment. A typical patient’s medical record usually takes up to hundreds of

pages and might even run into the thousands in the most extreme cases. Especially in

big facilities like Stonemere, electronic patient records are a must because they would

also be spending a lot of money on paper and printing. Electronic patient records are

also easily accessible. Mrs. Kaur mentioned how since Stonemere is a rehabilitation

center, their family can view their records from online to make sure everything is ok and
going smoothly. Sharing electronic patient records on the other hand is much easier,

patients and medical facilities can access information through the download of an app

or by sending a photo through a secured network.

I have been put with a couple members of the administrative team for the past

couple of visits. I have been put with the Activity Director, Human Resources

Department, and one of the Administrators. Mrs. Gurdeep Kaur, who is one of the

administrators that works with patient records, talked about her position at Stonemere

and what she does. She described how her typical day at work would look like and the

tasks she has on a day to day basis and how apart from taking care of patient

medications online that she also helps out with the residents when they need help. I

also worked with Mrs. Razia Dobani, who's a part of the administrative team, taught me

what she does. She’s the activity director and she plans out activities and organizes

events for the residents and patients at Stonemere. Since Valentine’s day was coming

up she asked me if I could make a flier for the Valentines Day party they were throwing

at Stonemere for the residents. I made a flier from scratch on Canva and sent it to Mrs.

Dobani. We also talked about her upcoming plans as an Activity Director and

brainstormed small activities for the Valentine’s Day party. Lastly, I worked with the

Human Resources department this time and she gave me insight about her job and

what exactly she does and how the administrative team works hand in hand with each

other and showed me how the checks and billings work at the facility.

Overall, I thought the conversation I had was really important because it gave me

a better scope about my original work idea and what I would do in the future for that. I
am also very thankful that I got to work with the administrative team because now I

know the different parts of the management team and how they work together.
