2.Use black/blue ink pens to answer on A4 or foolscap paper & the attached format. Strictly
NO pencils are allowed.
3. The answers submitted for Question 1 must be typed in A4 size paper in MS Word
(Times New Roman, font size 12) and will be checked for similarity by Turnitin while
Question 2 answers must be in the excel file attached (scanned to pdf format) and submitted
via email to sklee@ucsiuniversity.edu.my Make sure the answers are clear. Rename the file
as: (EV406_Jan2020_Your Name_ Your ID).

Q1 Alpha Enterprise (AE) owns a piece of commercial land measuring 50 acres in the
vicinity of Nusa Jaya, Johor, Malaysia. AE plans to develop and build phase 1, about 30
acres which comprises a Theme Park, a Shopping Mall cater for medium to high income
group, a 4 Star Hotel targeting main guests/occupants from Theme park visitors’ and
some units of 3-storey shop/office. The Theme Park must be open to public and fully
operational in 24 months’ time. For phase 1 development, AE has decided to adopt
Selective Tender system with budget allocation based on estimate prepared by appointed
Cost Consultant with 10% margin allowed for variation of works. As a Project
Management Consultant (PMC) appointed by AE and based on your knowledge and
understanding on The Type Construction Contract, you are required to make
recommendation to AE on which type of construction contract most appropriate to be
adopted to suit Phase 1 development taking into consideration the followings:
(a) Main aspects and features of the type of construction contract to be adopted.

(b) Main advantages to the client/owner on adoption of the type of construction contract you
have recommended.
(4 marks)
(c) Quality performance of construction works to be achieved with the adoption of your
choice of the type of construction contract.

Q2 Refer to the plan and section for pad foundation shown in Figure Q2 on page 4 of 4.
Compute the quantities for the following items of works. Adopt standard minimum
concrete cover to RC Pad ,Stump and Column and use minimum hook length of column
links. Assume total number of pad foundation to be 10.
(Unit weight of rebar: T20=2.467 kg/m, T16=1.579 kg/m, T12=0.888 kg/m)
(Use Taking off Sheet attached and remember to attach the completed Taking off
Sheet to your answers).
(a) Total volume of excavation in m³. (Assume straight cut. No allowance for working space)
(2 marks)
(c) Total volume of G30 concrete in m3 for R.C. Pad and Stump.
(4 marks)
(d) Total weight of reinforcing bars of T12, T16 and T20 in Kg.
