    Something that folds and keeps easy,
    First, a poem must be magical,
    Son’s note or Dad’s one gaudy tie,
    Then musical as a sea-gull.
    A roto picture of a queen,
    It must be a brightness moving
    A blue Indian shawl, even
    And hold secret a bird’s flowering.
    It must be slender as a bell, A money bill.

    And it must hold fire as well.


    It must have the wisdom of bows It’s utter sublimation,
    And it must kneel like a rose.
    A feat, this heart’s control
    It must be able to hear
    Moment to moment
    The luminance of dove and deer.
    It must be able to hide To scale all love down

    What it seeks, like a bride. To a cupped hand’s size


    And over all I would like to hover
    God, smiling from the poem’s cover.
    Till seashells are broken pieces

    From God’s own bright teeth,

    To the merest child.

    sinusubok naming mag-asawa magbibilang kami

    Halimbawa ay magtatawanan
    kung umiiyak magsusuntukan pa.
    ang bunsong anak Ganito kami lagi sapagkat
    at hindi kumikilos labis ang pag-ibig naming sa
    ang sintang mahal isa't isa.
    sasaksakin ko siya sa likod
    at patawang pagmamasdan
    habang duguang
    pasususuhin niya
    ang bunso.

    Kung pundi ang bumbilya


    Sa aming kusina
    at ako'y abala
    sa paglikha ng tula,

    hindi niya ako titigilan


    ng saksak sa batok
    hanggang ang ilaw ay di
    napapalitan.

    Patas lang ang aming labanan
