Child development skills necessary for the children’s success when participating:

This learning experience has been planned to stress the following WMELS performance
standards:
1. A.EL. 2 Understands and responds to others’ emotions.

2. B. EL. 2 Expresses self creatively through music, movement, and art.

Why have you chosen to do this experience?
It is a fun way to learn about diversity and a creative way to show children that when we all work
together, the results are much more interesting and colorful. Also, not to dislike on each other for being
different then you and to accept everyone for who they are.

Teaching Sequence of the Learning Experience

Set-up and arrangement of materials and equipment
All materials will be laid out all over the desks which would be meticulously organized into different
sections for the children to easily get to.

Transition Planning: Describe how the children will transition into the learning experience.
I would make sure the teachers, or I would say, today we are going to read a story entitled The Crayon
Box that Talked. Before we read the story, I want you to think about some of the issues that the crayons
have that we will come across. Let us read the story. Make sure to listen for some of the things they say
to each other and what they are upset about and to think about how they solved them in the story.
What is the teacher’s role (what will you do) during this learning experience?
My role during this experience is to help guide children when confused with the activity or have
trouble understanding how to proceed with it. I would also help with cutting out magazine pieces if
needed and to encourage them.

What will the children do during the learning experience? (Remember children are active, hands-on
learners!)
1. They will cut out templates
2. Draw on them
3. Color them

How will the learning experience area be cleaned up? (How will the children help in this process?
Where will the leftover materials be put? Where will the children’s artwork be place?)
For the activity to be finished their will be a cleanup song to gain the children’s attention and to signify
that the activity is over. All the children would put their items into their own cubbies or backpacks to
store for when they go home. Scraps will be thrown out and other items placed back where they were
stored or given to a teacher. The artworks will be hung up on a wall or hung on a billboard.

Transition Planning: Describe how the children will transition out of the learning experience.
I would get everyone to line up at the door for recess and ask each child as they go to put their outside
stuff on, what is your favorite color and why?

Self-Evaluation of Learning Experience: The following questions should be answered as soon as

possible after presenting the activity in the classroom.
Reflect on your success. Describe what went well.
I think the kids would have enjoyed the book with all the fun colors and creative storyline. I think the
kids would understand what is going on in the story and know what they need to learn. Also, they
would hopefully enjoy the crayon template that they get to draw and color.

The Registry Preschool Credential
Learning Experience Plan
Did the learning experience support the developmental skill that you planned to support? How
do you know?
I think it would have supported the developmental skills because the children can express their own
creative and colorful streaks by making the activity in their own way. I would know by the children
showing off their crayons to the teachers, other kids, and parents after it’s finished and if they had fun.

What changes would you make in the space and/or materials used in this learning experience?
All recommended changes should be supported with examples of the children’s participation. If you
said, “no change,” support your response.
I am not sure what I would change but I would probably have more materials to color or put for the
crayon. Or I would try to have better transitions that be more fun for the children as they clean up the
activity when finished.

What changes would you make in your teaching of this learning experience? Support each change
you list. If you said, “no change,” support your response.
I want to make sure I am being clear to the children in order for them to know what the purpose of the
activity is and the end goal for what we will be doing for the activity portion as well.

Would you do this learning experience again? Why or why not?

Yes, it’s fun to read this story to the kids and the activity s a great way to talk about differences and get
the kids to talk to each other.
