RUBRIC

Evaluation criteria for the skills of writing

Vocabulary
Is the student using the vocabulary he is able to produce according the level and
the vocabulary learned in the class? Avoids vague nouns such as people, things,
events…?

Accuracy (Use of English)


Is the student able to use multiple tenses? Do they have agreement? (plural, gender
and time) Are the verbs correctly conjugated? Is word order correct in the
sentence? Have those sentences concordance?

Communication
Is the student creative to use the language he/she knows to make his/her points
understood?
Preparation and research
Is there an evident topic preparation and a good process of research? Is the
information well administrated? Is there a background knowledge, Strong use of
examples, evidence or supporting details and clear focus maintained?

Authenticity
Is it evident that the student worked by himself and is the intellectual owner and
creator of his written text?

Comprehension
Did the student understand the task? Did he/she achieve it by complete? There are
missing items or incomplete?

Organization
A focused topic that is developed throughout the text, the sentences are followed
logically; it is coherent, has a catching hook or introduction, focused paragraphs
with topic sentences and effective transitions, good use of connectors, a conclusion
that brings the parts of the text together and provides closure. Clear and logical
progression of ideas, strong beginning, middle and end, strong, well-developed
multiple paragraphs, strong use of transitions.

Style
An effective voice that engages the reader; a writing style that avoids needless
repetition and redundancy; carefully considered vocabulary. Appropriate academic
register.

Purpose transmission
The writer had a successful transmission of his/her purpose. The reader understood
the direction of his/her main ideas.

Mechanics
Very good punctuation, capitalization and spelling. Typed and double-spaced, free
of typographical errors; proper margins and spacing (no attempts to avoid space
requirements by quadruple spacing) pages numbered, name, date, and title of the
writing.
(Times new roman # 12 – space 1,5 – margins: 2,5 in the four sides )
