A s we hear it, sound i s an atmospheric v i b r a t i o n .

t h e e a r and sound-center i n t h e b r a i n by 256 v i b r a t i o n s of
t h e atmosphere per second. This i s a l i t t l e slower, or " f l a t t e r n ,
t h a n t h e musical p i t c h now i n g e n e r a l u s e , b u t t h e t l i g h t v a r i a -

c a r r y t h e note "C" up through t h e musical s c a l e t o t h e l i m i t a
