Starting point
Alex suddenly leaves the meeting to take a break and clear his head out.
He bought a pizza to have something to eat. He cannot stop thinking over
Johan's question. At first, he can’t believe that there is only one goal in a
company because there are a lot tasks to do in the operations daily. He
thought of cost effectiveness, producing quality products and technology.
He has second thoughts of it that something might not right. He thought of
increasing sales and share in the market but it is still not enough.
Suddenly it strikes him that the Goal of his company is to make money! He
took a pen and list all the items need to consider in achieving the main
goal: cost-effective purchasing, employing good people, high technology,
producing products, producing quality products, selling quality products,
capturing market share. I even add some others like communications and
customer satisfaction. Anything that brings him closer to the Goal is
productive. Hence, all other activities are non-productive! He now already
have a starting point.

Given the fact that Alex is realizing little by little the main goal and the
problem, for me it is a good start for the main character on how to save
the division from being sold and to save the employees and his job as well
