I. Course Description:
This course provides you with the principles, knowledge, and techniques for managing human
resource in organizations. In today competitive environment organizations need to have sound
human resources strategies that are inextricably linked to their business goals and strategies.
Incidents and cases are used to diagnose human resource problems, and design and implement
solutions. This course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the strategic role
that HR plays in organizations: topics includes strategic human resource management, human
capital management, job design and analysis, human resource planning, recruiting, selection,
training and development, performance appraisal, compensation and rewards, employment law,
collective bargaining and labor relations, human resources management for international
operations and cross-cutting issues in human resource management. The course stresses the
evaluation of human resource programs, and the need for human resource management practices
to be compatible with one another and to be supportive of the firm’s strategy.

II. Course objectives:


At the end of this course student will be able to:
- Understand the concepts, importance and significance of human resource as an asset of
the organization
- Understand the dynamic nature of human resource management in business and public
organization
- Analyze the human resource requirements of business or public organizations
- To teach you the important functions and concepts of Human Resource Management
(HRM)
- To develop your ability to apply the HRM functions and concepts through critical

- thinking
- To develop your HRM skills in your personal and professional lives
- Knows the importance of knowledge management and the global aspect of human
resource management diagnose human resource problems, and design and implement
solutions.
What I expect of you
- Attendance.
- Class attendance is absolutely essential. I expect you to attend every class. All missed
classes will be noted. Missing more than three classes’ results to incomplete grade.
- Participation is strongly encouraged. Mention if you do not understand something and
- Performing individual/group work and assignments on time

What to expect from me


- Text book and Lecture notes will be posted/ mailed accordingly
- Exams will be based on text and lecture notes. Even if it was not in power point as far as we
discuss in class and if it is in the text it was a fair game.
