Someone Else’s Secret

I remember the day I went to jail.

I remember the day they tackled and shackled me.
The screams from the prison cells as I walked in.

Me being thrown into the cell with my tough and rugged cell mates.
Them “initiating” me into the cell.
Being afraid to take showers.

Lifting in the yard.

Everyone yelling, “Pass it to me,” while playing basketball in the yard.
People getting stabbed in the middle of the night

Then I remember my day to get out.

How ecstatic I was.
The quietness of the lobby.
The fresh air outside the walls.

But no one came for me.

I lost everyone
For what I did.
