1990 Luzon Earthquake

The event was a result of strike-slip movements along

the Philippine Fault and the Digdig Fault within the Philippine Fault
System. At around 4 pm on July 16, 1990, a magnitude-7.8 earthquake hit
Northern and Central Luzon. Its epicenter was recorded in San Jose City,
Nueva Ecija, and the shaking lasted for about a minute. The area that are
affected by the earthquake was so large, it stretched from the mountains of
Cordillera Administrative Region up to National Capital Region. This
earthquake was not predicted nor forecasted, because as we know
earthquake can happen anytime and anywhere without any signs or
warnings. That’s why there are no warnings that were given to the public and
they are not prepared because they do not know when an earthquake strikes.
.

On August 3, 1990 the report of The Office of Civil Defense there

are 1, 594,040 people affected, 2,412 are dead, 3,513 were injured, and
752 were missing. No, because there’s no such amount can quantify
the value of a person’s life. Proper education, knowledge, training, and
preparation could help to prevent many loss of lives. And also the
cooperation of the people with the government and authority could
also be a help to prevent such number of loss of lives. According to the
Asian Development Bank, the GNP for the year 1991 is expected to
drop at 1.1% from 3.7% in year 1990 due to combined effects of the
1990 Luzon Earthquake and 1991 Mt. Pinatubo eruption in the
economy.

Yes it affects the economic performance of the country. Because

as we know this earthquake hits the central and northern part of
Luzon, where many tourist spots located like Baguio City. Because of
this occurrence the number of tourists declined. There are an
estimated 10 Billion pesos were used for the aid, relief, and
rehabilitation services to persons and areas affected and for the
survey, repair and reconstruction of government infrastructure
damaged or destroyed by the earthquakes of July 16, 1990. The live of
the people who died on the 1990 Luzon earthquakes are the ones that
cannot be recovered or repaired because no money or riches can’t
compensate the life of a person.

It is justified because there will be lesser damage on properties

and lesser casualties, you can prevent the loss of many peoples lives.
