Discussion

1. Needle stick injuries are occupational hazard among nurses. In our study 58% nurses
were up to the age of 25 years while 17% were greater than 50 years of age 51% with 20-
29 years 30.6%were 30-39 n8
2. . In our study 54% NSIs are caused during recapping of needles 26% during injections
administration and 26% with cannulation ,while in another study 44.5% injuries were
caused by recapping of needles 7% during injections and 3%during cannulation.
3. In a study needle stick injury during morning shift occur to be 57% and 28% during night
shift which are comparable to study conducted by us.
4. Needles cause 65% and surgical equipment 10% in our study in n10 needles 46%
surgical blade 5%
5. Mild 23% moderate 38% severe 34% 88025B mild 67.8% deep 1.7% moderate 30%
fingers were most common injured site
6. At time of exposure 98% wore ppe double gloves by 9% no eye shild or face shield
