Fork in the Road – Exercise

The fork in the road can be used to bring yourself up to a threshold, causing you to
access additonal motivation and give you that extra edge.

Before doing th fork in the road hypnotic process, I’d recommend that you consider
the following questions:

1 Establish the context for change


What is something that you know you SHOULD be doing but, for some
reason are not? – or, are not doingit to the level you would like to…

2 Do a present state check:


On a scale of 1 to 10 where are you in terms of motivation for this?

3 Elicit ‘The Path of No Action’:


1. So what are some of the consequences of not doing this?
2. And what might those consequences lead to?
3. So what does not doing this mean to you? if you could sum this up in 8
words or less…
4. So when you think of not doing this over the course of a longer span of
time, how does that intensify things?
5. What would it be like for you in 5 years from now, looking back, from that
place, in the knowledge that you haven’t done what you know you should
have done?
6. And what would it be like for you in 10 years from now, looking back, in
the knowledge that you didn’t take action to improve that important area
of your life?
7. And as you think about this, over the course of your entire life, as you look
back now, from this place in time, what’s it like knowing that you never, ever
took the kind of action that you know you had to take?

4 Elicit ‘The Path of Action’:


1. Looking forward to accomplishing this goal, when you take action, how is
that going to positively enrich your life? 8 words or less…
2. What does taking action towards accomplishing this mean to you?
3. What potential new possibilities is that going to open up?
4. What will all of that give you, that’s clearly, massively important to you?
Repeat back…in order to do what?
5. And is there a greater purpose that ALL of this fits into?
6. What’s it like when you think about positively taking action towards this
over a longer span of time?
7. What’s it like, in 1 year from now, having taking positive action towards this,
looking back, to how you were when you first started?
8. What’s it like, 5 years from now, looking back, having taking positive action
towards this, and becoming aware of how it’s developed over time?
9. What’s it like, 10 years from now, looking back, having taking positive action
towards this, and becoming aware of how it’s developed over time? What
wonderful opportunities might that lead to?
10. What do you think it will be like loking back, from the end of your life,
knowing that you did all you could to make this happen?

5 Do an ‘after exercise’ check


• So having gone through this little exploration, how much more motivated
do you now feel to action?
• Where are you now on a scale of 1 to 10? – with 1 being not motivated
and 10 being completely motivated.
