attractions for tourism

Nowadays, tourism industry plays an important role in improving the economy of the country.
Tourism industry not only attracts many visitors in the nation but also become the main reason

which not only improve the economy of the country but also provide great sustainability in the
nation Museum can be defined as that place where the people can learn the history of the country
or can get to acquire the knowledge about the past evidence, art structure and the unique objects
which stores in the museums. Sri Lanka is known to be one of the best destinations for heritage
tourism as the country is associated with the interesting past and have various museums in the
country. There are many heritage sites in the country which are Sigiriya rock palace (Crane, et.
al., 2016). This place alone has a net collection of US$ 10-15k per day. There are other heritage
places in the country which manage to attract many tourists in the country. Among all the places,
museums are the one which can attract most of the tourist and=become one of the favorite
destinations of the tourist. Heritage and tourism are connected and both play an important role in
reflecting the image of the country in the world.

Heritage Tourism can be defined as those places which are associated with the various heritage
of the country. Heritage and Tourism are connected with each other and the people of the UK
easily get attracted towards the heritage places. The main purpose of heritage tourism is to attract
more tourist which are interested in knowing more about the history and the people who gather
information about past events. These are the people who like to visit the monument sites. As the
technology is evolving at a rapid and with the excess use of the Internet, there are many people
which like to visits this heritage places and like to gather the information about those places
instead of searching those places on the internet (Heidenreich and Plaza, 2015).

In today's world, one of the most famous tourist activity is heritage tourism. This tourism not
only assess the country in improving its economic condition but also support the country in its
sustainable tourism development in the nation. In order to enhance the heritage tourism activity

4
in the nations, it is essential to develop knowledge about heritage tourism and museums which is
helpful, in attracting more customers in the nation. Heritage tourism plays an important role in
attracting the tourist and has possessed three main categories which are as follows:

There are three types of heritage tourism which are Natural, cultural and built. The
characteristics of this heritage tourism are as follows

Natural Heritage Tourism- These are the places which consist of various landforms, Flora and
Fauna and Rural Scenery. People who have their interest more in nature prefer natural tourism
more.

and famous industrial sites. People who like to know more about the history and the events of the
past prefer these type of places more.

These are the different types of heritages which attract the tourist more especially in the country
of UK. It is important for the government of such places to protect these places so that it can
build more tourist in the country. It also assesses the nation in its sustainable tourism. Different
types of Heritage tourism are as follows:

5
There are two types of cultural heritage which are physical cultural heritage and the non-physical
cultural heritage.

Physical cultural heritage is the one which belongs to various historical monuments, cultural
landscapes, historic urban areas, collection of movable heritage and the different sites of
Archaeological.

Non Physical cultural heritage is those places which consist of different stories, myths, beliefs,
value system, traditional system, different languages, different symbols, and signs and different
forms of literary expressions.

Development in historic sites plays an important role in attracting the attention of the tourists.
This cultural sites can be developed with the support of the government as to maintain such
places the procedure is very costly due to which it needed the support of the government to
maintain such places clean and attractive so that it will attract more customers in the country.
Tourism not only provides sustainability of the country but also maintain the economy of the
country (Trinh and Ryan, 2013).

To attract the attention many tourists, Museums are also playing an important role. People who
like to prefer visiting historical places are getting attracted towards the museums more
nowadays. In the country UK, there are some historical museums which grab the attention of the
tourist a lot. Cultural tourism is the one which prefers to visits such museums in numbers.
Tourism activities include various cultural places such as museums, cathedrals and art galleries.
The main purpose of visiting the museums is to educate the tourist with the information related
to the history of that place of that object. These museums can also educate their tourist about the
cultural history of the company and also the natural heritage of the city. Museums can also help
the tourist to explain the valuable and historical places to the public.

In the country UK, most of the tourist visit the country to explore various cultural and heritage
spots. There are several purposes of the people behind visiting such places and the purposes of
this people are mention below (Brida, et. al., 2013):

 Education- The main purpose of the tourist behind visiting such places is to collect
information about the history of those places in order to wider their knowledge more
about certain places and certain things. The other purpose of visiting such places is to

6
enhance their knowledge for the purpose of their academic learning. In today's world,
various education learning programs are introduced to these cultural places which
enhance the knowledge of the tourists. In the country UK, Museums like Victoria and
Albert manage to arrange different educational programs to their visitors which is a big
reason behind attracting that tourist in the museums. These programs can arrange the
authorities of the museums through thematic stories, various dramas related to the history
of that place, labels, and other educational programs. This assesses the people to get full
information about the culture of those places (Chiabai, et. al., 2013).

Entertainment- Many people like to visit these places for their entertainment purpose. People
who like to learn creative things and want to do different creations like to visit these places in
order to have entertainment. People who like to travel a lot and like to do many creative things
prefer visiting these places a lot.

Research- the other main purpose of visiting such places is to research the history of the
country. Many people are like to do more research on the historical things about the culture of a
7
particular region. A place like the Science museum in the country UK is the one which grabs the
attention of many researchers. Researcher visits such places in order to research about the
different discoveries of the people and also the various modifications of the science which is
placed in that museum. In science museums, there are various things which attract the tourist,
these things are different types of robots, lie detectors, and laser harp. People who like to learn
new things and are attracted towards the science tend to visit such places on a daily basis
(Richards, 2016).

These are the places which attract the attention of many people and force them to visit such
places. People who have more interest in historical places and like to enhance their knowledge in
knowing the historical events and cultural places like to visit such places. These historical places
become the main medium for enhancing tourism in the country. Hence, it is important for the
government of the country to take care of such places also improves the condition of such places
so that it will attract more tourist. Tourism plays an important role in enhancing the economy of
the country. It does not provide sustainability in the country but also establishes a big name of
the nation in front of the other countries (Chiabai, et. al., 2013). The success of the industry such
as the traveling industry mainly depends on their visitors. It is important for the country to
promote their historical places and museums more so that the people from around the world get
to know about such places and visit those places often. In the tourism industry, cultural and

8
heritage attraction of the places with their visitors are very important as it has been seen that
there is increase in the number of visitors who are visiting these places and this becomes the
most important industry which contributes a lot in the economy of the country.

9
Task 2 Heritage interpretation as part of the tourism experience. Evaluate the different
interactive approaches through which heritage was interpreted at each of the sites visited.

Heritage interpretation plays an important role in attracting visitors towards this heritage places.
In order to improve the experience of the visitors visiting the place is most important as it allows
the authorities of such places in creating a big impact on the minds of the people. These
interpretations can be created with the help of examining the perceptions of the visitors and also
provide a various special experience to the visitors so that the visitor will remember that
experience he/she gained in that place for a long time. There are various approaches which can
be sued by the government in order to provide a better experience to their visitors (Mitsche, et.
al., 2013). For example, places like Victoria and Albert museums arrange different programs like
thematic stories, various drama related to the history of that place, signs, and labels assess the
government in attracting more tourist in the museums and cultural heritage. These activities
assess the visitors in gaining knowledge about the historical places and also the cultural events
which took place in the past in those places. This activities attract the attention of the visitors and
force them to visit the place once in their life. Museums also implement various other activities
in order to grab the attention of their visitors. These activities can role-play of historic events and
various drama of the different historical activities.

This assesses the museums to grab the attention of peoples from all over the world due to which
people from all over the world come to the UK to visit such places and to experience such
events. This will not only build more tourists in the country but also improve the overall
economy of the country. Authorities of such heritage places promote their places on social sites
or through advertisements so that more people will get to know about such places and come to
visit these places.

Heritage places are the most vital part of the tourist, it not only attracts new tourist in the
business but also builds several tourists in the place daily. Government of such countries can
implement an HII which allow the government to implement various strategies. This can be done
by implementing an HII. An HII is a heritage interpretation of itinerary which will encourage the
tourist in order to extend their stay in a particular place. This will not only enhance the

10
development of that area but also it will promote rural products more in the market. The process
of implementing this HII are mention below:

 In order to develop an HII, it is necessary to identify the starting point of the HII. This
can be done selecting the special heritage site which already attracts lots of tourists. This
will create lots of visitors in the place and many people will come to visit the place.
 After selecting the place, it is necessary to examine that place. In order to build an
effective HII, it is essential for the authority to examine that place carefully. After that, it
is necessary to examine the different profile of the visitors. Authorities can examine the
different profile of the visitors like their age, nationality, their income, amount of
experience they have, their budget and the duration of they stay. Examination of such
things assess the authorities in providing a better experience to their visitors.
 After examining their profiles, authorities can examine their preferences in order to
provide them various interpretive elements. These elements can be the history of the
places, environmental features, techniques of building such monuments, and other socio-
economic text (Wong, 2013).
 After that, they can implement an interpretation center which can be situated at the site of
heritage. This will attract the attention of more visitors and also ensure the mediation
between the rural area and the visitors. The visitor will also get to know the various facts
about that rural regions and the visitor will be able to collect the information about the
cultural places of that region and also the various monuments situated on that places.
Interpretation media can be placed at that place in order to attract the attention of the
visitors more. This will also assess the authority in their planning phase and provide more
effective strategies in attracting visitors.
 After implementing the media to attract the visitors, authorities of that place can
implement a geographical information system (GIS) in order to store the data of the
heritage site. The site which is selected as a tourist heritage can implement the system of
GIS to collect the various data about the site. This system will also assess the authorities
to carry out various examination about that place and various features about that place.
They can analyze the distance of that place from the city and also determines the types of
viability which are the determination of the surface of the roads and slops of the roads
(Patuelli, et. al., 2013). They can also analyze the various facts about the places where the
11
tourist can stay or food products and many other services. Food and beverage is a vital
component in the tourist experience as it plays a huge role in the satisfaction of the
visitors. By advertising different local food and services of the local area, they can offer
quality food to their visitors which will enhance their satisfaction level in visiting the
place. This will also assess the government to accomplish their objective and the visitors
will get to know more about the socio-economic development of that region.
 They can also examine the number of distance thee visitors has covered while visiting
that place. This will allow the authority to examine the interest of their visitors and they
can conduct more activities in order to attract such visitors to visit these places again.
This will not only bring more visitors to the place but also enhance the economy of that
region (Cetin and Bilgihan, 2016).

It is important for the people to conduct many activities in the cultural heritage especially
those heritages which is situated in the rural area. This will allow them to grab the attention
of more visitors and as a result, more customers will visit the place and get to know about the
history of that place. This will not only spread the awareness of that place in the minds of the
people but also brings more people in that place. Tourism industry becomes one of the most
important aspects of improving the economy of the country. Hence it is important for the
government to take off their heritage place and conduct various activities which are related to
the past of that place in order to educate the people about the various incidents which took
place on that area. This will also assess the visitors to have a better experience while visiting
that place and also encourage them to visit such places again in their life. This activity
conducted by the authorities on that heritage places will not only bring more visitors on such
places but will develop the overall condition of such places which also improve the economy
of the country (Lo, 2013).

Interpretation can be defined as that term which can be used to educate the tourist about the
certain heritage place. A proper interpretation will assess the tourist in understanding the
history of a certain place. Proper interpretation only educates the tourist about the certain
events which happened in the past in that place but also enhance the knowledge of the
visitors. There are various authorities of the heritage places which can create different plans
in order to enhance the knowledge of their visitors. This will create more curiosity in the

12
visitors and make the visitors more interested in staying that place. This will also assess the
authorities of such places to extend that duration of the visitors in their stay. The authorities
need to implement various activities through which they can interact with the visitors or
tourist in order to enhance their knowledge more about certain places. This will not only
develop more curiosity in their minds but also encourage them to spend more time in that
place. This will be beneficial for such places in their development as the increase in the
number of tourist results in more development in those places (Throsby, 2016). It can be seen
that many heritage places are situated in the rural area due to which it is necessary for the
management of such places to implement various activities which will attract more tourist in
such places. They can also promote the places on social sites so that the people from all over
the world get to know more about such places and they can visit these places. This will
develop that region more and also enhance the economy of that region and also the economy
of the country.

Heritage Presentation of a particular place is very important to attract the attention of the
visitors. It is important for the authorities of those places to present their heritage places in
such a way that it will look attractive and grab the attention of many visitors from all over the
world. It is also necessary for the authorities of those places to provide effective and quality
interpretation to the tourist above the particular place. This will enhance their knowledge in a
good manner and also create a good image of that place in the minds of all the visitors. Every
heritage place is linked with an interesting history and various stories. People who come to
visit such places or museums have a common purpose to know the story of such places. Thus
it is important for the authorities of such places to narrate hose stories about the places in the
form of various activities or dramas so that the visitors can be more interested towards the
interpretation of heritage places (Bessiere and Tibere, 2013).

Interpretation plays an important role in enhancing the experience of visitors. People who
come to visit the places are from different religion and have different interests. Thus, it is
essential to know the interest of the visitor or the perception about the visitor and according
to that enhance their knowledge about the certain place. It has been seen that visitors
generally want the information which is provided by the authorities of that place need to be
of their interest. If the information provided to them is of not there interest then generally

13
gets bored with the story. This will not only minimize the interest of such visitors about that
place but also minimize the possibility of extending their stay in that place. It is necessary for
the authorities of such places to provide information according to the interest of the visitors.
This will, not only enhance their knowledge about the certain place but also assess them in
maintaining the interest of the visitors about the history of that place. This will assess the
authorities in encouraging such visitors to extend their stay in order to gain more knowledge
about certain things. This will not only develop that place more but also enhance the
economy of such regions (Laing, et. al., 2014).

Heritage interpretation plays an imperative role in enhancing the experiences of the visitors.
This will not only provide effective knowledge to the visitors about such historical places but
also enhance their interest in those places. Visitors who visit such heritage places like art
galleries and museums have one motive in their mind is to enhance their knowledge about
those places more. They are the one who likes to explore more places and tend to gather
more information about those places. Heritage interpretation not only provides effective
information about such places to those visitors but also manage to influence them to extend
their stay in those places. This will not only generate more money in that area but also a good
strategy in improving the overall economy of such places.

14
Conclusion

From the above study, it can be concluded that the tourism industry has a big contribution to the
economy of the country. This industry not only improves the economy of the country but also
establish a good image of the country in the world. In the tourism industry, people are like to
visit heritage places more to gather information about certain places and also to know the history
and the events which have happened In such places. From the above report, it concluded that it is
necessary to provide effective interpretation to the visitors in order to enhance their interest
towards those places. This will not only bring more tourist in such places but also encourage
them to extend their stay which is beneficial for that region.
