Installation Guide for

OpenSim Updated: 2/26/16

Introduction
OpenSim is a software application used to create 3D models and simulations of the human musculoskeletal system. Students will use
OpenSim to analyze the length of the hamstring muscle during a patient’s crouch gait cycle to determine whether the patient is a
candidate for hamstring lengthening surgery.

Instructions
1. Make sure you are logged in as the Local Administrator on your computer. It is imperative that you consult your IT team
before you install any software or attempt to change any settings on your computer. Administrative rights are based on a profile created by
your System Administrator. Many variations are possible, and these “rights” may not allow you to install this software properly. This is very
important to ensure all the OpenSim files and environment variables are set up properly.

2. Download the OpenSim installation program from the appropriate link above.

3. Save the installation file to your computer.

4. Open the installation file where you saved it.

5. If prompted to allow the software to make changes to your computer, select Yes.

6. Select Next to start the installation.

7. Select I Agree when presented with the License Agreement.

8. For the Install Options, select Add OpenSim to the system PATH for all users, then select Next.

9. For the Install Location, accept the default location, then select Next.

10. For the Start Menu Folder, accept the default folder name to create a new menu folder for OpenSim 3.3, then select Install. You
will see the installation progress bar.

11. Once the installation is complete, select Finish. You should be able to see OpenSim 3.3 in the Start Menu and in the file
directory.
