Chapter 6

In Sunny Spain, 1882-1885

As a student, I admire Rizal for being an independent student who studied in abroad by all himself. In
this chapter, it tells the life of Rizal when he goes in spain. Rizal hid his intention to study abroad only
Paciano knew it. During his journey to go spain, he observed people around him, enjoyed the views and
try to speak with other people in every place that they pass over like Singapore, Suez Canal, Africa, and
Barcelona which he write some articles. Sometimes during travel I love observing people like their
cultures and enjoying the views just like Rizal but i don'k write articles. When Rizal finally went to
Madrid, he enrolled in Universidad Central de Madrid in two course "Medicine" and "Philosophy and
Letters". Rizal cannot avoid being attracted with girls which is a nature of being a man, his lover during
that time was Cosuelo Ortega y Rey but later on he did not allow the romance for the sake of Leonor
River his lover in Philippines and his friend Eduardo de lete who was deeply in love in Consuelo. Rizal
spent time to read books, studied different languages, doing sports, improve his skills in arts and etc.
Rizal also made speech for Luna and Hidalgo for winning Arts competition in Madrid. He saluted them.
Afterwards, Rizal finished his study in "Philosphy and letters" and "Medical Course" and passed all
subjects to the degree of "Doctor of Medicine" but due to lack of funds he was not awarded his Doctor's
Diploma. As expected, being an independent student is not easy. You may face various problems
especially financial problem. Due to this problem Rizal fail to get his Doctor's Diploma.

Chapter 7

Paris to Berlin (1885-1887)

As a student, I admire Rizal for his thirst in knowledge even though he already finished Medicine in
Madrid he proceed to Paris and Germany in order to specialize in Ophthamology. He chose this branch
of medicine to cure his mother. I think to be a good student you will need a big determination and
motivation to reach your goals. Rizal's motivation is to cure his mother. In Paris, Rizal became an
assistant of Dr. Louis de Weckert, french ophthamologist for three months and rapidly gain knowledege.
During this time Rizal improved his music skills but can't improve his singing skills. After acquiring
experience from Dr. Weckert he went to Heidelberg. There Rizal become a member of Chess Player's
Club due to his skills in chess. Then, he worked in the University Eye Hospital under Dr. Otto Becker, and
attending lectures form other Doctors. Rizal wrote about flowers of Heidelbeg. He took his vacation at
the place Wilhelmsfeld, a kind Protestant pastor with two children. He treated Rizal very well even
though he is a stranger. Afterwards, Rizal wrote letter to Blumentritt a German ethnologist who has
interest in Philippine language and became his best friend. After the fifth centenary celebration of
University of Heidelberg, he boarded to a train and visited various cities in Germany and stopped at the
Leipzig. He met different Scientists and they acknowledged him, he became a member of
Anthropological Society and Ethnological Society.
Rizal stayed at Berlin because he want to gain knowledge about Ophthamology, further studies in
Sciences and Languages, observed political and economical condition of Germany and finish his Nove
Noli me Tangere. Rizal described the Germany women as serious, diligent, educated and friendly unlike
other women. He advised his sister to gain knowledge and became an educated women. Rizal
experienced financial crisis during that time and his health broke down due to lack of nourishment.

Chapter 8

Noli Me Tangere

As a student, I learned in this Chapter that if your determination is so strong God will help you. Rizal
shows that no matter what problems or challenges in life come he will still finish his work. During winter,
Rizal suffers financial crisis and sickness while finishing his novel Noli Me Tangere. He lost his hopes to
published his novel and almost burn it but Dr. Maximo Viola sent a message to him and Rizal revived his
hope. Dr. Viola saved the Noli and printed it into 2,000 copies. The title "Noli me Tangere" comes from
the Latin word means "do not touch me".

The story was based in real life story which Rizal can prove it even though the characters have fictional
names. The characters are the people who was part of life of Rizal in the Philippines. Rizal's friends
praise the "Noli". He sent copy to Blumemtritt, Dr. Antonio Ma. Regidor, G. Lopez Jaena, Mariano Ponce
and Feliz Hidalgo but Dr. Viola is the one who read first the Noli me Tangere.

Chapter 9

"Elias and Salome"-Missing Chapter of the Noli

As a student, sometimes I faced being shortening in money. When we have projects, research papers,
assignments, tasks and etc. that needed to submit due to financial problem I have to manage my budget
to divide it properly into those paper works. Sometimes I had to cut or shortening the information for
manage my budget. In a relationship, sometimes we had to let go to our love ones for their sake. If it is
for their safety and happiness we had to do it just like Elias and Salome.

In this Chapter, Rizal has to cut and rewrite his novel due to financial crisis. Only a few person knew that
there is a missing chapter in Noli me Tangere but Rizal still delete this chapter without affecting the story
of the novel. He killed Elias in the story but later on he regret it. He said that he apologized for killing
Elias instead of Ibarra, Elias is more fitted to be a main character that Ibarra because he is the most
qualified for being a successful man. The missing chapter is about Elias and Salome. Salome is the
sweetheart of Elias. Elias is hiding in the authority, when they meet Salome at the lake she asked Elias to
come with her and live to the Mindoro with her relatives. Elias refused and asked Salome to find other
honorable and respectable man, one that she deserves who can truly make her happy.
Chapter 10

Rizal's tour of Europe with Viola, 1887

As a student, I saw in Rizal that he loves in traveling. Exploring different places, learning new things and
socialize with different people. In this chapter, it tells that had finally explore to Europe before going
back at the Calamba in the Philippines. After Rizal finished printing the Noli, he wants to go to Europe
and Viola accompany him. Paciano sent 1,000 pesos to Rizal. Rizal gave the 300 pesos to Viola to pay his
debt.

Rizal and Viola ride in train in their journey. They go to Dresden and went to Floral Exhibit. They visited
Dr. Adolph Meyer and the Meseum of Art for Prometheus Bound. At the floral exhibit they met Dr. Jagor
and he advise them that they had to sent a wire to Bluementritt before going to him. At Leitmeritz, Rizal
