ASSIGNMENT NO: II

NOTE: Assume suitable data if missing and draw near and clean diagram
where necessary. (Submission Date: 5th Nov 2018) upto-12pm.

of Rigidity and Bulk Modulus to be E=9KC/3K+C.
2) A steel rod of 16 mm diameter and 3 m length passes through a copper tube of 50 mm

length of copper tube is reduced to 0.7 mm. the temperature of the whole assembly is
raised by 63 degree. Determine the stresses in the steel and copper before and after the
rise of temperature. Assume that the thickness of the steel plate at the ends do not
change during tightening of the nuts. Es=220GPa EC=105GPa, αs=13*10-6 /°C and
αc=18*10-6 /°C

a.
3) If the point in material, the minimum and maximum principle stresses are 65Mpa and
125Mpa both tensile respectively. Find the shear stress and normal stress on a plane
through this point make an angle tan-1(0.25) with the plane on which the maximum
principle stress occurs. Also find the value of the maximum shear stress associated
with normal stress. Show all type of stresses on properly oriented element graphically
and prove the result analytically.
4) Draw stress and strain diagram for ductile and brittle material and describe every
point on the curve.
5) A simply supported beam of length 9m is subjected to a UDL of 30 kN/m throughout
the length and concentrated load of 20 kN at 3m from either support find the shear
