Work and Power

Name of members: 1. CABRIDO, Mikaela M. Grade and Section: 8 – Mt Kanlaon

2. CANICOSA, Joie A. Date submitted: September, 9, 2019
3. CATIPON, Clarence V. Date performed: September,5, 2019
4. DEOMAMPO, Brandon Charles S.
5. DE ROXAS, Liam Jan DL.

I. General Objective
The purpose of this activity is to compare how much power and work done by each

member of our group.

II. Materials and Methods

In this experiment, the materials needed are weighing scale for our mass, timer and height

of stairs. The first thing we did was measure the height of the stairs. After that, we climb up

the stairs while recording the time to reach the top. Then we used the weighing scale to get

our mass. We multiplied our mass to the acceleration due to gravity to get the weight. To get

the work, we multiplied the weight of each member to the height of the stairs. While to get

the power, we multiplied the weight of each member to the time they taken to climb up the

stairs.

III. Data and Observations

NAME FORCE(Weight) DISTANCE WORK TIME POWER IN

MOVED DONE TAKEN WATTS

CHINO 666.4 1.85m 1232.84J 5.18s 238W
JOIE 470.4 1.85m 870.24J 4.63s 187.96W
MIKAELA 539 1.85m 997.15J 4.92s 202.67W
LIAM 450 1.85m 906.5J 4.40s 206.02W
CLARENCE 588 1.85m 1087.8J 8.20s 132.66W
We observed that the higher the weight, the higher the work. In power, we can see that

the fastest time to climb up the stairs is Liam while the slowest to climb is Clarence. We

observed that the longer the time you take your time to walk up the stairs, the lower the

power you use.

Work and Power

Work is the force multiplied by displacement. The unit in work is joules. We can see that

the higher the force you use, the higher the work done. While in power, you divide work by

time. The unit of power is watts. The longer the time, the lower the power.

V. Conclusion

From the experiment, the groupmate whose mass is greater than the other, the higher the

work done by the person as compared to the groupmate whose mass is lesser than him or

her. And also, the longer the time it took them to climb up the stairs, the lesser the power

that was consumed.
