Previewing and marking predictions!

You can do this before you start reading. Previewing is when you look for
information before you read. For example, when you look at a picture, a book
front, an envelope, headlines and advertising. Making prediction is when you
make guesses about a passage. In that way, previewing and making prediction
help you read faster understands better.

Exercise: Practice previewing and making prediction with the pictures in


the following page.

1) On the following page, there is a picture of the place you have decided to
go on your vacation. Preview the picture and make predictions about your
vacation.

5) Here is a story about Sam and the thing he will probably cook. Read story.
As you read, think about what might happen next. Look for clues in the story.
Think about what you already know.

Sam likes to cook. This week he will cook a new


thing every day. He is making plans about what to
make.
On Monday, Sam plans to make a chicken dinner.
His whole family likes chicken.
Sam will make some hot sandwiches on Tuesday.
His dad likes sandwiches. His dad also likes cheese.
San thinks his dad will like this lunch.
What will Sam make on Wednesday? His sister likes
eggs a lot. She would probably love eggs for
breakfast.
What about Thursday? Sam knows that his brother likes hotdogs for lunch. Sam has an
idea for lunch. San wants to make something special for his mom. She likes apples. She
also likes to eat pie. Sam will bake a special pie for his mom on Friday.
