Introduction
General
Purpose The purpose of this document is to provide the procedure to upgrade existing IOM1/2s to
IOM-3 modules. This procedure provides minimal service disruption without reboot.
Intended This document is intended for internal use only and shall be distributed among the people

Requirements
Pre-requisites
Engineering Person who is in charge of performing procedures explained in this document should be

7750 SR software boot process and cards:
- IOM, IMM, MDA, CPM, Compact Flash
Experience of 7750 SR hardware and software installation:
- Knowledge of card installation, checking 7750 SR logs

Pre-Migration
Pre-Migration Tasks
Configuring the Make sure that the chassis-mode is compatible with existing and migrated IOMs on the node.
Chassis Mode To check the chassis mode of the system, simply run the command below:

Depending on the chassis and IOM type, the following modes can be configured;
Console Connect the PC and 7x50 with a console cable, run the terminal software and select the

NOTE: COM port number may vary on each PC. In the example above , it is COM2.

3 Verify the synchronization between active and standby CPM.
If standby status fails for a redundant system, go back to Step 1.
Save Log File The output of each command should be saved to a log file in order to refer back to the status of
the device before reboot.
For SecureCRT, Click Options->Session Options->Log File;
Backup Create a backup directory and backup the configuration under this directory:

Migration
Migration Tasks

Remove the If the system is managed by 5620 SAM, IOM1/2 card remove operation on 5620 SAM is

Click on „Equipment window‟ and select the node and related card slot which will be migrated,
right click and “Remove Card”.
WARNING: Removing card from 5620 SAM will cause service disruption.
This operation deletes the card from the slot therefore the slot and all configuration contained
in the slot is changed to administratively down.
Click on “Yes”.
IOM2-IOM3 Replacement
Replace the Replace the IOM1/2 cards with IOM3 cards as described in Reference [1] in „Installing IOMs,
Cards MDAs and IMMs‟ chapter.
Install the MDA Press the MDA firmly into the slot. Make sure that the connectors are fully seated in the
IOM slot.
Check Card Check card status before executing the new config. The card state will be “Unprovisioned”
Status and equipped card type will be “iom3-xp” as follows:

Post-Migration
Post-Migration Tasks
Post-Checks Saved logs during the Pre-Migration step indicate the status of the services before migration. In
order to validate the status of the services after migration and verify stability of same services,
before and after Post-Migration tasks should be performed.
Verify the For redundant systems, verify the synchronization between active and standby CPM.

Equipment If the system is managed by 5620 SAM, check equipment view on 5620 SAM GUI about the

Re-synch with Resynchronize the system with 5620 SAM as shown below. Skip if the system is not managed
5620 SAM by 5620 SAM.
Back out
Introduction In order to back out system to initial status, back out operation must be performed.
Step Action
1 Replace the IOM3 card with IOM2 card.
2 Copy the original configuration file to the primary-config file:
A:IP-GPEC# file copy cf3:\backup\config.cfg cf3:\config.cfg
3 If the standby card exists, perform the following command. Otherwise skip to
the next step.
A:IP-GPEC# admin redundancy synchronize boot-env
Console Cable
Introduction In order to connect to the 7x50 products, use a console cable (DB9-DB9). Pin-out table and
