Move on from your Past “Wisdom” is defined in the dictionary and in Google as “the quality of
4th topic: “Choose Wisely”
Keep it! – “Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets
understanding” -Proverbs 3:13
Objective:
At the end of this lesson we will…
 Explain what wisdom is.
 List and explain each of the principles of choosing wisely
 Write down what you think are wise decisions that can honor
God in specific situations.
Activity: " Human Tik Tac Toe”
1. Materials: Tik Tac toe drawing on the floor or DIY
2. Procedures: The object of Tic Tac Toe is to get three in a row. You
play on a three by three game board. The first player is known as X
and the second is O. Players alternate placing Xs and Os on the game
board until either opponent has three in a row or all nine squares are
filled. X always goes first, and in the event that no one has three in a
row, the stalemate is called a cat game.
Synthesis: Making the right choice is no different to playing tik tac
toe game. In this game, you have to fill in the grid as wiser as your
opponent. What happens if you put your bet on the wrong box?
Application: “Whatever choice you make, it makes you so choose
wisely”
Introduction:
Life is often filled with multiple choices and you will always have
decisions to make. Wisdom is one thing that really important in
making any decision.
having experience, knowledge, and good judgment; the quality of
being wise.”
The Tagalog meaning of wisdom is…
1. karunungan
2. dunong
Ang karunungan o dunong, sa larangan ng pananampalataya, ay ang
pagkaunawang nanggaling sa Diyos. Isa itong marunong o matalinong
pag-iisip o kaisipan; o ang pang-unawa sa tama at mali, at
pagkakaroon ng matinong pag-iisip o pinag-aralan. May kaugnayan ito
sa sentido kumon, talino, erudisyon, at tining ng pag-iisip.
Now that we fully understand what wisdom is and how important it is
in making decisions, let us look at several other principles of choosing
wisely.
I. Every choice has an effect: We will either enjoy the benefits of
wise choice or suffer from the consequences of a bad choice.
“Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that
will he also reap.” – Galatians 6:7
II. We can choose our response yet we can’t choose the penalties of
our action: We are free to choose anything we want, yet we cannot
choose the results of our choices.
“All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are
lawful,” but not all things build up. Let no one seek his own good, but
the good of his neighbor.” – 1 Corinthians 10:23-24
III. Not all seemingly good choices are really the good one:
“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to
death.” – Proverbs 14:12 we may think we are in the right path but
look out! The end of that road leads us into death.
IV. Wisdom from God is important in making right choices:
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to
all without reproach, and it will be given him. 6 But let him ask in
faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubt is like a wave of the sea
that is driven and tossed by the wind.” – James 1:5-6
V. When all done, leave the result to God: Once the decision in
made, just ask God for strength and prepare for its consequences. If we
know that our decisions are based on the standards of God then honor
Him. However, if we failed to sought Him first to honor Him before
we make choices, trust Him anyway and give our best to please God
on the next choices we will make.
Let us read and ponder: “The story of the wise old man”
In a small village there lived a wise old man to whom everyone turned
for guidance and advice. One day, a young boy decided he would
confront the old man with a question that he knew the old man would
not be able to answer correctly. His plan was to find a little bird and
hold it cupped in his hands hidden from sight. He would then
approach the wise old man and ask him to guess what he had buried in
his hands. If the old man answered it correctly, he would then ask him
the zinger – whether the bird alive or dead? If the old man said the
bird was alive, the boy would crush the bird with his hands and kill it
thereby proving the old man wrong. But if the old man said it was
dead, the boy would open his hands and let the bird fly free
demonstrating at last that the old man was not as wise as everyone
thought him to be.
So the boy ventured off and found a little sparrow that fit neatly within
his hands. As he approached the old man, the boy said, “wise old man,
can you tell what I have in my hands?” “Why of course I can,” the old
man responded without hesitation. “From all the small feathers
clinging to your jacket and pants it is plain to see it is a little bird that
you have cradled in your hands.” “Ah, that is so” the young boy
exclaimed, “but is the bird alive or dead?” The old man paused for a
moment then rubbed his chin in contemplation of his response.
Looking the young boy in the eyes, the old man replied in a soft tone
“whether the bird is alive or dead is in your hands my child. The
choice is yours.”
Conclusion:
The words of the old wise man may also apply to us in making
decisions in our life, “…the answer …is in our hands.” In most cases,
we have the choice to honor God with every decision we make.
Therefore, we can apply these principles to make choices every day!
