Biak na Bato National Park request a signature bridge to mark the entrance to the river-
rapids trail. The proposal is to create a fanlike design spanning 40meters as sketch below.
The topography leaves limited space for a tower and backstay. As shown in the drawing, the
designer started by using 5 pairs of stays to support the two side beams at interval of
8meters starting at 4meter from each end. The designer use a semi fan pattern to facilitate
connections to the tower.
The designer wish to use rectangular steel tubes to support the deck of the bridge, a mast
from steel pipe, rods or cables for stay. The mast will be of hinge connection and at the end
of the deck farthest from the tower, shall develop a detail that doesn’t transmit any load to
the cliff, but will restrain the bridge from moving laterally or upward.
Design the following spot detail connection to actually realized how the bridge will be built.
