PHILOSOPHY AND LOGIC ARE KNOWN FOR GIVING APPROPRIATE

RESPONSES TO QUESTIONS. IT MAY OF COURSE NOT BE THE ONLY
POSSIBLE ANSWER, BUT AT LEAST A RESPONSE WAS GIVEN TO THE
QUESTION AT HAND.

TRY TO ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS. BE AS LOGICAL AS CAN

BE, FOLLOWING THE RULES OF ARGUMENTATION IN THE PREVIOUS
ASYNCHRONOUS ACTIVITY.

HERE ARE THE QUESTIONS: (Respond in more than 5

sentences) You may answer in English or Pilipino)

1. Thanos, the villain in Avengers Infinity War knows that

due to widespread neglect and carelessness, the earth and
universe has become disorganised and chaotic. He
desired to eliminate half the population for the sake of
peace, and ultimately to save the whole universe. Was he
truly an evil villain in thinking and doing so? And was he
justified in his actions? (*Justified implies that one’s
action was reasonable and tolerable).
Answer:
Maybe he wasn’t really the villain here, he just wants to
change the whole world by eliminating half of the universe.
Because it is his way and he believe that we people abuse too
much of our resources that we haven’t been taking care of it.
Thanos has his own visions on saving the world, but we do not
want to be erased in this world. Maybe if he can eliminate half
he should handpick the people who are deserving to be erased
in this world and I think that would be fair. The world would
be a better place if criminals and bad government and bad
people would be gone.

2. An abortion clinic had only three employees, the doctor

who performed the abortion, the nurse who assisted, and
the gardener who tended the outer gardens of the clinic.
One day the police arrived and arrested all three. Was the
police justified in arresting even the poor gardener?
Justify your answer.
Answer:
The police shouldn’t arrested the poor gardener, he was just
doing his job. But the gardener was part of the clinic he maybe
knows what the clinic has been doing was all wrong, he should
have told to the police station. I guess the police is just also
doing his job, that no one is above the law. If the gardener can
prove himself not guilty, he can be saved by the public lawyer.
No one is above the law, but we can justify the gardener and
free him.

3. A 60 year old man named Juan had a motor accident and

was unconscious. Rushed to the hospital and about to die,
the doctors had nothing to do but to operate on him. But
when they removed his clothes, they saw in his chest a
tattooed inscription, “Do Not Resuscitate!”. If you were
the doctor, will you honor his request or will you
continue the operation to save his life?
Answer:
Right now, I would decide to proceed with the operation. A
DNR request is only effective when there is a definitive and
legal proof on paper. The patients life is more important for
me. As a doctor, I will do my duty to care and save my patients
life (and still, perform the operation) and the fact that we don’t
know if that tattoo is just for the design or is it really what he
want. But in reality it’s the family’s decision, given the waiver.

4. Of the three outcomes in the study of Philosophy and

Logic (Communication Skills/Persuasive Powers/Writing
Skills), which do you think will be most helpful to you as
an Architecture student? Explain well.
Answer:
As an Architecture student, Persuasive powers can really help me
to excel in my course because of this I can persuade my professors
in my design or in the future it can help me gain more clients. In
the article that I have read “Persuasive power impacts your ability
to convince others of the wisdom of what you believe.”
Sometimes this persuasive power is detrimental, for example,
when you convince others to follow a path that was in fact unwise.
A person that has persuasive power is able to convince people to
make wise decisions, but also to convince people to make unwise
decisions. Finding clients and projects is hard for Architects if
they don’t know how to persuade them, if they can’t justify their
design or convince them. Also it can help me in my thesis if I
could present well my design to my jurors.
