Coronavirus Disease Pandemic

Hello, today i’d like to present about Coronavirus Disease Pandemic. At this time almost all
of countries are being hit by coronavirus. Many cases have occurred like confirmed cases, death
cases, and recovered cases. Today I’d like to tell more about this pandemic.

First, we have to know what is Coronavirus disease (COVID-19). This is an infectious disease
caused by a new virus named Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-Cov 2).This
virus, which surfaced in a Chinese seafood and poultry market late last year (November 2019). It has
spread to at least 171 countries, killing more than 38,000 and sickening hundreds of thousands of
people in a matter of weeks. Scientists now suspect this coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, originated in a bat
and somehow hopped to another animal, which then passed it on to humans.

Dr. Li Wenliang was a Chinese doctor who hailed as a hero by many for trying to ring early
alarms that a cluster of infections could spin out of control. But, in early January, he was forced to
sign a statement denouncing his warning as an unfounded and illegal rumor. He died on Feb. 7 after
contracting the coronavirus.

Finally, the World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11 declared COVID-19 as a

pandemic, pointing to the over 118,000 cases of the coronavirus illness i n over 110 countries and
territories around the world and the sustained risk of further global spread.

Now, i will talk about the etymology of the virus. “Coronavirus" is derived from Latin.
Corona, means "crown" or "wreath", this name is borrowing from Greek κορώνη korṓnē, "garland,
wreath". The name refers to the characteristic appearance of the virus by electron microscopy,
which have a fringe of large, bulbous surface projections creating an image reminiscent of a crown
or of a solar corona. This morphology is created by the viral spike peplomers, which are proteins on
the surface of the coronavirus.

Next, how does it spread from one person to another? Let’s begin. The coronavirus spreads
primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or
sneezes and we have to know that person-to-person contact is thought to be the main method of
transmission for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It also spreads when a person touches a surface or object that
has the virus on it, then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth.

What are the symptoms if someone has been infected? People may be sick with the virus for
1 to 14 days before developing symptoms. The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever,
tiredness, and dry cough. The other symptoms of coronavirus are shortness of breath, aches and
pains, sore throat and very few people will report diarrhoea, nausea or a runny nose. Also, more
severe symptoms such as pneumonia. Most people (about 80%) recover from the disease without
needing special treatment. People who have underlying medical conditions (such as asthma,
diabetes, or heart disease) and those over 60 years old have a higher risk of developing severe
disease and death.

How to prevent infection and to slow transmission of COVID-19, do the following:

 Wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds with soap and water or clean them with hand
sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
 Maintain at least 2 m distance between you and people coughing or sneezing.
 Avoid touching your face. Don’t touch your mouth, eyes, or nose after touching an infected
object.
 Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing (for example, by coughing into a
flexed elbow).
 Stay home if you feel unwell and work from home.
 Refrain from smoking and other activities that weaken the lungs.
 Practice physical distancing by avoiding unnecessary travel and staying away from large
groups of people.

On April. 5 2020, In the worldwide there are 1.203.485 confirmed cases, 154,77 cases per
1M people, 246.893 recovered cases, and 64.774 death cases. I’d like to compare 5 countries with
the COVID-19 cases, there are Indonesia, United States, Spain, China, and South Korea. First, let’s
talk about Indonesia. In Indonesia there are 2.273 confirmed cases, 198 death cases, 8,52 cases per
1M people, 164 recovered cases, and still counting. Next, United states, until April. 5 US still the
highest country infected with corona cases with 311.626 confirmed cases, 8.489 death cases, 946,56
cases per 1M people, and 14.943 recovered cases. The third country is Spain with 126.168 confirmed
cases, 11.947 death cases, 2.678,7 cases per 1M people, 34.219 recovered cases. In China there are
81.669 confirmed cases, 3.329 death cases, 58,25 cases per 1M people, and 76.964 recovered cases.
On March. 18, officials said 5.600 residential areas (78% of the residential areas in the city) are virus-
free. The last is South Korea, there are 10.237 confirmed cases, 183 death cases, 197,7 cases per 1M
people, and 6.463 recovered cases. Korea has a relatively small number of deaths, if we compared
with the confirmed cases.
The conclusion from me is facing the COVID-19 pandemic. We have to know how it spreads
to people, how me prevent this virus, and what action we have to do. We can do sosial distancing,
stay at home and work from home, stay clean, keep your body healthy, don’t be stress, and don’t
panic . We can do this together.
