‘Falling behind on one thing, Learning on Everything”

A Reflection

Many people indeed would think that because of the current situation of the world today
due to the Covid-19 outbreak and with all the suspension of classes and the sudden stop of
education among students would literally mean us, falling behind, but we are just falling behind
in the classroom education and never to learning. Yes, we may fall behind into this certain
thing but this does not mean we are falling behind into everything, learning isn’t just confined
to the education we learned from the four corners of the room, learning can be in so many
different dimensions of the society and of the world, and that should also be catered, be given
importance, be emphasized and be appreciated. Furthermore, it is not always the content that
enriches student’s wisdom but the experience and the values they have lived with. Any
learnings from any circumstance, action, possibilities, event can truly create great persons
that will soon be significant to the society with their own and best ways.

A stop of education in different universities and educational institutions around the

world is not a stop of learning among us, students. Our teachers does not only resides on the
bodies of our instructors or on the corners of the classroom, our teachers resides within us,
we are the teachers of our own, our experiences, actions, mistakes, observations, awareness,
pleasure and our desire to create things and do things are what makes us learned individuals.
These mean that the best learning that we can all have is to learn what truly matters in our
lives, what truly affects us and what truly makes us a whole.

What if, really? This space and time that this pandemic have caused us have
something to do with our true beings, that we can be even more just by being with our families
and being at home, that we will not just learn mostly academic matters, but we will learn values
and manners, which are something more powerful and life-changing.

Indeed, something is powerful without guidelines, rubrics and standards, just like in
learning, it becomes more effective and valuable if it is not dictated, not pushed, not mandated,
not judged by a numerical value (grades), a learning with no boundaries, learning beyond
papers and pens and technologies, learning with values, goodness, good plans and with
simple enjoyment from simple things that each of us can rarely learn from the educational
system and can only be learned from ourselves, from the simple things we do and from the
little things we enjoy.
Having all these values, manners and plans and happiness, we can never say that we
are falling behind, because we are so much ahead. We get to rediscover ourselves, we get to
find humanity among us, we get to share the love with the people around us, we get to be
contented of what is offered, we get to enjoy the simple things life can give, we get to plan, we
get to be creative, we get to be expressive of our opinions, we get to stand on what we think
is right and good for all, we get to appreciate the help and the heroic doings of the people on
the frontlines, yes, we get to learn the real lessons of life. This certain circumstance has not
just made us learned individuals but significant and ahead.
