•master regulator of insulin;
potent metabolic hormone in
the metabolism of proteins,
carbohydrates, and fats; assists
neurotransmitters; helps with
the function of the brain,
thyroid, and hormonal balance.

GROUP PRESENTATION
•By group, students will select
five substances in the market
and identify the chemical
components of each substance.
Then, arrange them from the
most to the least harmful and
present the output in the class.
Environmental
Chemistry
• Sun block (titanium dioxide) –
affects the organisms in the water;
like the jellyfishes in Sohoton.
• Aficionado (perfume) – contains
ethanol that can cause disorder of
central nervous system; irritates
eyes, low inhalation
• Hammerhead (perfume) – 14 –
fragrance oil – cannot be used with
sensitive skin
• White dove baby cologne (ethyl
alcohol) – irritates respiratory tracts;
cause dryness of the skin
• Salt (NaCl) – food preservation; too
much can cause stomach cancer and
diverse effects to the kidneys
• Eskinol (citric acid) – irritate to eyes,
when exposed to sunlight, your face will
be damage
• Fragrance powder (magnesium) – treat
infected skins; can cause diarrhea
• MSG – flavour enhancer; mild
headaches, muscle cramps, brain
damage
• Hand Sanitizer (glycerin) –
moisturizer; healing wounds;
sometimes, might get allergies,
itchiness, redness of the skin
• Jand J Baby powder (talc) – it can
cause asthma and irritates the eyes
• Potassium nitrate – can creates
fire/explosion; health risks when inhaled
• Sodium fluoride – stomach upset; allergic
reactions
• Pyrethroids – non volatile hydrocarbons;
carcinogenic; cause abnormal sexual
hormones; itchiness,
• Facial powder (tender care) – magnesium
carbonate – slightly hazardous when there
is a skin and/or eye contact.
• Polycarbonate plastic – brain behavior
and prostate gland of fetuses, infants, and
children
• Sodium hypochlorite (zonrox) – extreme
irritation when contact with skin and eyes,
chlorine gas can cause disability and worse
death.
• Cadmium (batteries and charger) – it has
a chemical that has been link to early
puberty and differences in mammary
tissues structures. And breast cancer
• Plastic spoon – polysterene (PS) – toxins
absorb by our blood stream and tissues; it
produces CO2 when burn
• Cologne bottle – 2 – propanol –
flammable; keep away from the bottle
• Star wax (petroleum distillate) – colorless
liquid with a gasoline; contains aromatic
hydrocarbon; when inhaled, it can cause
irritation and corrosive effects

methicone – can cause dryness
and irritation.

– it dilutes and can cause
severe burn and dryness,
