The blogger and you have your own respective lives, and we lead different lives and that
results in different experiences. The blogger can equally say your experience is wrong
too, couldn’t he? What makes you so goddamned sure that you have the ‘right’ experience?
In short, leave no negative commentary on the blogger’s personal aspects. You yourself may
not be experienced enough to know better. Stop being so judgmental.
Using the comment section to bounce off a new topic or a takeoff point for
something off-topic.
Instead, do the decent thing and write to the blogger directly for a topic that’s not covered
yet. Learn to strictly stay on topic.
If the blogger wrote that his/her parent had a long-running extramarital affair with some
asshole, don’t comment by asking how long had the affair been and what made that lover
an asshole. It’s none of your business.
You were perfectly fine to buy a loaf of bread at the supermarket without having to ask
about what wheat was used or how it grown to make the flour, or whose hands kneaded the
dough.
EXAMPLES
Examples of a bad comment:—
“I don’t see why you ranked ABC Corp. higher than XYZ plc. After all, ABC
garnered $1.23 billion in pretax profit in fiscal 2017–18 while XYZ earned only half
that in the same period. I question your ability to make corporate rankings. Do you
have any citations to back up your claims or rankings? It may be your experience
to rank them by after-tax profit, but here in Absurdistan, we rank them by pretax
profit.
“Meh. I like Fender guitars better. They have longer necks.”
Examples of a good comment:—
“I wouldn’t have thought ABC Corp. would rank higher than XYZ plc, but I could
see why considering Absurdistan here uses pretax profit as the yardstick and
Nonsensia uses after-tax profit. As far as you can tell, what were the reasons for
Nonsensia to use that? I ask because most countries would use pretax profit. It
would be interesting to get a sense of the difference.”
“Please include a section on Fender guitars, please. I look forward to reading
your coverage. First-class post, by the way. Thanks.
