TENSILE STRENGTH

It is the maximum resistance that a material can withstand before breaking, which is
subject to a tensile load, that is, the application of two external forces in opposite
directions that tends to stretch the body in a controlled way, in order to determine one or
more mechanical characteristics, therefore, when they are solid bodies, the deformations
are permanent; in elastic bodies it recovers its original length when the tensile stress
disappears. For example: Qualified reinforcing steel must
meet controlled tensile standards, which define
the quality of the steel, whose minimum tensile
strength is 240 MPa, with a minimum
elongation of 203.2 mm, withstanding a
maximum stress of 420 MPa, the which section
narrowing occurs until finally breaking.
