This is the latest addition to hydrotherapeutics by this application, the body gets
influenced not only with the temperature of the water, but also by the percussion
movement which is made on the periphery with a strong water jet. Impact this is
the combination of two treatment, Viz, general immersion bath and massage.
Duration ; 15 Minutes
WAX BATH –
Molten WAX is applied to the affected areas at 42-45 Deg. C and allowed to pool
to the body temperature in 10 to 15 Minutes. Like fomentation, wax baths are
useful in treating chronic conditions like Arthritis, Arthritis Deformans and dick
seated muscles pain caused due to sprain.
PHYSIOTHERAPY –
SONOPULS -
Temperature : 32 – 36 deg. C
Procedure : As of cold jet bath.
Temperature : 40 – 42 deg. C
Duration : 30 secounds to 5 minutes.
Procedure : The water revolvers in a big well - type tub. When the patient enters
the tub he gets a gentle massage by the whirling water. A normal adult with good
physique can take this bath with cold water.
ENDOMED :
Effects : It helps in pain relief, induces muscle contraction without unpleasant
sensation. It is useful in treatment of very sensitive areas.
i) Horizontal tractions
ii) Intermittent static tractions
iii) Intermittent force tractions
LASER THERAPY :
The word LASER is an acronym for “Light amplification by Stimulated Emission of
Radiation” This definition aptly described the operation of a LASER consisting of
emitted light witch is therefore phontonic and may be visible or invisible
depending on its wavelength. The emission is first stimulated by electromagnetic
radiations os that the incident and induced rays, coincide, resulting in a ray with
strictly indentical parameters. At its basic photonic level, the laser beam is no
different from ordinary light. It is concentrated regrouping of photons emitted in
phase that produces a coherent and powerful beam. There is no such thing as
LASER light, rather only a Laser effect applicable to the light.
SPINAL BATH :
The spinal baths are given in tubs specially made for them. Like the hip bath, it is
also given at cold, neutral and hot temperature. A perforated tube is provided at
the centre of the tub in order that the constantly emanating ascending jet will
give a gentle massage to the whole spinal column. This tub is not only
comfortable, but also help to maintain constant water temperature. The gentle
massage of the fine water columns are capable of giving quick results. The patient
has to lie down in the tub so that the whole spinal cord will receive the water
columns.
Requisites : A specially designed apparatus similar to the arm bath tub is used for
this.
Use : Warm water enema is helpful in cleansing the rectum of the accumulated
faecal matter.
CONCLUSION:
Room for enema treatment should be provided with a bed and also a W.C. which
can be used immediately after treatment.
HYDROTHEREPY :
HIP BATH :
Hip bath is given at cold, neutral, hot and alternate temperature in a special hip
bath tub.
Procedure : The tub should be filled with cold water enough to cover the hips and
reaching up to the navel of the patient when he sits in it. Generally four to six
gallons of water are necessary. If the patient feels chill or when the climate is very
cold or if the patient is very weak, a hot foot bath should be given along with the
cold hip bath.
Procedure : The patient should drink or 1 or 2 glasses of cold water and sit in the
tub , avoiding friction to the abdomen. Cold compress should be kept on the
head. After the bath, both cold shower and exercise are to be avoided.
Relaxation/rest for 30 minutes is advocated.
SAUNA BATH :
Modern Sauna bath chambers are improved replacements of the old time Turkish
Bath Chambers. A cabin specially made with pine wood is used for this purpose.
Depending on the size of the cabin, two to ten patient could be treated at a time.
Duration : 20 minutes.
Procedure : Before entering the chamber, the patient should drink planty of cold
water and take cold shower. While in the cabin, the person should frequently rub
his body to encourage dilation of the surface vessels. When the person feels
sufficiently hot, he should take a cold shower and quickly dry himself. This should
be followed by relexation for 30 to 40 minutes.
The treatment should be stoped if the patient feels giddy during treatment and
should be given a cold shower immediately.
CONCLUSION :
Before entering and also after treatment, shower is must. So shower area should
be provided.
As, after oil massage these treatment is, generally, given. So both should be
placed together.
ENEMA :
Enema is a injection of fluid into the rectum. This is also known as rectal irrigation.
Requisites : Enema can.
Water temperature : Only lukewarm water.
Procedure : The patient lies down on his right extending his right leg and folding
the left leg at right angle. The enema nozzle which is smeared with oil or Vaseline
is introduced into the rectum. Slowly the can is raised to height of 3 ft. from the
patient and water is allowed to enter the rectum.
i) Dinning hall.
ii) Juice centre.
As soothing diet is given during first two to three and then according to doctor’s
priscription, patient is providing constructive diet. So accordingly area of both
should be provided. Kitchen should have three separate department.
i) Juice
ii) Raw vegetable
iii) Processed food
MUD THERAPY :
Mud is one of five elements of nature having ennense impact on the body in
health as well as in sickness. It can be employed conveniently as a therapeutic
agent is naturopathy treatment as its black colour absorbs all the colours of the
sun and conveys them to the body secondly as the mud retains moisture for a
long time, when appliedover the body part it cause cooling. Thirdly its shape and
consistency can be changed easily by adding water. Moreover, it is cheap and
easily available.
Mud procured for treatmene purpose should be black cotton soil with greasiness
and free from pollution and contamination. Before use mud should be dried,
powdered and sieved to separate stones, grass particals and other impurities.
Mud Pack :
It is applied by keeping soaked mud in a thin, wet muslin cloth and making it into
a thin flat brick depending on the size of the patient’s abdomen. The size of mud
packs are generally 10” x 6” x 1” for adults. The duration of the mud pack
application is 20 to 30 minutes. When applied in cold weather, place a blanket
over the mud pack and cover the body as well.
Practitioner) to perfect himself keeps a watch on his mind, emotions, words and actions. A non
–voilent attitude is a significant aspect of a fully developed individual.
He who speaks the truth is always courageous and is not afraid of anything . Mahatma Gandhi
said “truth is GOD AND God is truth”. Truthfulness should be practiced unfolding Buddhi
(mind),perfecting it in thought ,word and deed.
Truth is the heighest form of conduct , Patanjali, in Yoga Sutra, says speaking truth makes a
man successful in his aim.
Asteya means non-stealing , to maintain pure and unblemished honestly in mind and action.
Stealing brings unhappiness to the person who steals .When a person practices Asteya,wealth
comes to him on own ,but he may not accept it.
iv)Brahmcharya : (clibacy)
Celibacy is a necessity for the practice of Yoga .It demands complete abstinence from sex in
thought, emotion and practice .Brahmcharya is the master key for opening the realm of health
and happiness. It also consolidates vigour and strength, ensuring good health and helps achieve
peace and a long life.
v)Aparigrahs: ( non-Coveteousness)
Aparigraha means non-coveteous ness, to keep control over one’s need One should not desire
things that are not necessary to one’s life.One should cut down one’s possession and
requirements to the minimum,sayspatanjali. Accumulations disturb the mind and are the root
cause of all unhappiness.
2)NIYAMA(Individual discipline)
purity and cleanliness are very important for those who want to practice.Yoga Physical purity
leads to mental purity. Sympathy, happiness,good behavior and habits are basis for internal
purification.
ii) Tapas(Austerity):
Tapas in Sanskrit means to burn or become hot. Tapas envisages strict discipline and
austerity,which help in the purification of the
MASSAGE TREATMENT:
Oil massage:
Oil massage is a treatment in which oil is smeared all over the body and kneaded in a
systematic manner. The patient is made to lie down in a relexed position on a cushioned table
designed for the purpose.The massage movement are done manually by a masseur. The
movements are regulated according to the part that isto be treated Movement like percussion,
friction, kneading, stroking and vibration are made for a period of 30 minutes.
The movements are effected in the direction of venous blood flow. To start with, the massage is
done on the right side of the body starting from right foot and finally head and neck. The
patient is asked to take sun bath for 20 minutes/steam bath/sauna bath and then a warm bath
after the oil massage.
CONCLUSION:
In this treaement patient is fully undressed, so proper changing room with shower areas should
br provided.
In the treatment room area should be provided such as movement of person, giving treatment ,
is allowed to move aroune the bed on which patient is made to lye down.
Since after this treatment, steam bath/ sauna bath is recommended, they should be placed
together.
Vibromassage :
In this massage, talcum powder is applied as a medium and the movement are performed by a
machine for this purpose various applicarors are used on different parts of the body. Inthis
massage, the part gets immense vibration and thus the circulatory and nervous system are
influenced. The duration of the massage is 30 minutes.
Soaked mud paste is applied on the face and allowed to dry for 30minutes. This is helpful in
improving the complexion of skin and removing pimples and open skin pores which in turn
facilitate elimination. This also is helpful in eliminating dark circles around the eyes. After 30
minutes face should be washed thoroughly with cold water.
The soaked mud to a size of 1/2” thickness is placed in a 9”x6” size wet cloth. It is then folded
on all sides like that of a mud pack applied on the abdomen. It is placed on the eyes for 20-30
minutes.
Mud Bath :
Duration:45 to 60 minutes.
It is given in a special cubicle where the patient can expose himself to sunlight. Mud may be
applied to the patient in sitting or lying position. This helps to improve the skin condition by or
lying position. This helps to improve the skin condition by increasing the circulation and
energizing the skin tissues. Care should be taken to avoid catching of cold during the bath
.Afterword’s, the patient feels chill, warm water be used. The patient is then dried quickly and
transferred to warm bed.
CONCLUSION :
Mud packs for face and eye can be applied and treated in a enclosed room but for mud bath,
patient should be totally exposed so special area should be provided such that it should be out
of iiew and at same time exposed to sunlight. Awash area should be provded with it.
CONCLUSION:
In this same as oil massage, changing and shower rooom should be provided .
And treatment room should have area to keep Vibro machine and bed.
COLD FRICTION:
Requisites: A hot water bag, a glove made of Turkish cloth, a blanket, a bucket of
cold water.
PROCEDURE: The patient is made to lie on the table, face downwards, with a hot
water bag at his feet. The attendant dios the golve in cold water and gives friction to
the patient briskly, starting from the feet and working upwards part by part,
including the front and back. After each part has been rubbed, that part is covered
with the blanket. Ashort vold shower is given afer the treatment.
Ice Massage:
Procedure: The patient lies prone (on his abdomen) with the back exposed.
Icecubes wreppedin the thin towel are gently moved along of the spine from occiput
(base of nack) to the coccyx(end of the spine)
STEAM BATH:
Requisites: Aroom specially made for this purpose. The seam is passed into the room
through perforated tubes.
Procedure: The Patient shold drink 1 or 2 glasses of water and take a cold shower
before entering the steam room. Immedeatly after the bath, a quick cold shower acts
as a refresher. The patient should relax for 30 to 45 minutes.
Sometimes, during the bath , one may feel giddy or uneasy. In such case the patient
should immediately be taken out and a glass of cold water given and his head
washed with cold water . Sufficient rest should be given untill the unpleasent
symptoms disappear.
