WHAT IS HYDROTHERAPY ?

• HYDROTHERAPY, formerly called hydropathy and also called water cure is a


part of alternative medicine that involves the use of water for pain relieve
and treatment.
• It helps to stimulate underlying muscles as well as blood flow to skin.
INTRODUCTION OF HOT TUB BATH

• It was invented in 1915 by seven Italian brothers in NORTHERN ITALY.


• Hot tub bath is a bath in large tub full of hot water used for HYDROTHERAPY treatment,
relaxation or pleasure.
• Some have powerful jets For massage purposes .
• Hot tub are also known by the trade name JACUZZI.
REQUIREMENTS

1. Water thermometer
2. Two or three bath towels and bath mate.
3. Basin of ice water.
4. Two washed clothes.
5. Shower kept to protect hairs.
6. Rubber Ring for patient to sit on .
7. Folded bath towel for head Pillow (plastic covered).
8. If prolonged ice bag or cold fluid to drink.
PRE OPERATIVE PROCEDURE

• Room should be warm and free from drafts.


• Assemble equipments.
• Fill the tub 2/3 full of water 38°©-40°©.
OPERATIVE PROCEDURE

• Assist the patient into tub make comfortable with a bad or folded towels under hips and behind head .
• Cover exposed body parts wit a towel.
• Keep head cool with a cold compres.
• The first treatment should elivate the body temperature only one degree celcius
• Cool water to 35.5°c for about 5 minutes.
• With longer bath times and increased temperature always use an ice bag over the heart and give fluids
to drink.
• Check pulse timely don’t exceed 80beats per minute .
• Assist patient from tub, remember patient may become faint with exertion Getting out of the tub.
• Follow the bath with the cold sponge.
• Dry thoroughly And keep patient warm.
• Patient have rest for one hour after treatment.
• It may be advisable to take the bath only two or three times weekly as per the physician Advice.
• Avoid over fatigue.
• Care of the skin after bath is important.
POST OPERATIVE PROCEDURE

• Finish with blanket wrap if heating is required.


DURATION

• 15 to 30 minutes.
• (note: Time span can increase to 45 minutes to an hour depending
on certain aspects.)
PRECAUTIONS

• Aged people will not tolerate hot bath well.


• If patient is on medication consult physician first.
• If dizziness or faintness occurs stop At once.
• Never leave the patient alone.

INDICATION

• Poor general circulation.


• Pain specially joint pain, collic and cystitis.
• Muscle weakness and rigidity.
• Congestion of internal organs.
• Early in treatment of sedentary lifestyle with musculo skeletal DYSFUNCTIONS and
called EXTREMITIES.
CONTRA INDICATION
• Cardiovascular disease.
• Diabetes.
• Vascular disorder.
• Hypertension.
• Diseases of malignant origin.
