Executive Summary

Mr. Douglas Gittens, Chief Operating Officer is 37Years old. With nineteen years’ experience as a

teacher and over ten years’ experience in small business (transportation, taxi proprietor). Main

responsibilities: production scheduling, purchasing, sales invoicing & office management. XPRESS

Transportation Services Incorporated is a Mackenzie, Linden based Transportation Company that aims

to be one of the largest premier transport companies in Region 10, first, with the hope of expanding to

the largest premier transport industry in the country. In pursuit of the expanding market and new

customers, XPRESS has created this business plan to obtain a Business Loan from the Linden Enterprise

Network of Six Million Dollars (GY$6,000,000) to finance the enhancement and expansion of already

thriving independent transportation services; by purchasing a Bedford Model M truck and supplies such

as drums, gasoline and ration to ensure sustainable growth.

The newly formed business will transition from an independent taxi service into the food and fuel

industries respectively through trucking, with plans to diversify with new industries that will later come

on-stream; one of these industries in the oil and gas industry with Guyana finding significant oil reserves

offshore. XPRESS Transportation Services Incorporated has chosen the trucking industry to the interior

as growth prospects are encouraging and stable.

Consequently, XPRESS Transportation Services Incorporated undertook research to document and

quantify, trucking services to the interior in and around Linden and to Georgetown; key operational

costs, stratified by fleet size (initially two trucks), sector and region of the country. Mr. Gittens has

Page 1
already purchased a Toyota Canter at the cost of GY$4 million dollars and is now ready to expand,

hence, the need for that sizable loan.

The goal of the research was to identify current and accurate operational costs based on data provided

directly from the trucking. The outlook for 2020, points to a continued increase in industry costs.

The two key cost centers, fuel and driver wages, are expected to increase in 2020. Fuel prices have risen

nearly 10 percent in the last two months of 2019, which will almost certainly increase multiple cost

centers, including (petroleum-based) tire purchases. For driver wages, the truck driver shortage is

expected to become increasingly worse over time, likely translating to higher wages and higher industry

costs, however, the proprietor has already made contact with Mr. Marlon Bonnett, a driver with nearly

20 years’ experience as a driver mechanic to ensure safe passage to and from the interior.

The future trend in this industry appears to be higher quality services the major force affecting the

industry is the high cost of fuel; however, in response there has been an increase in the production of

more fuel efficient and economical vehicles. New fuel efficiency requirements will increase 40 % to 35

miles per gallon by 2020.

Page 3
Strategy and Implementation

Cost is a key factor in making in-roads into the freight industry, especially with the

Increasing costs of fuel. However, the need for these services continues to increase.

Thus, to achieve success in this industry, one must offer the lowest prices possible.

Although many competitors will no doubt offer competitive prices, XPRESS Transportation Services

Incorporated will also offer personable customer service and reliability. Clients can feel safe knowing

that there produce is in safe hands.

Competitive Edge

XPRESS Transportation Services Incorporated is a business partnership owned and operated by friends,

dedicated to treating all customers with respect and loyalty. As fuel prices increase, cost becomes

highly important in this industry. XPRESS Transportation Services Incorporated has the flexibility to

offer better pricing.

Although XPRESS Transportation Services Incorporated exists in an industry full of competition, our

pricing and customer service will cause us to stand out from the rest. XPRESS Transportation Services

Incorporated’ fleet is smaller than that of its competitors because of our starting point, the business is

committed to purchasing equipment that carries a larger number of vehicles and offers better emissions

control and fuel economy.

outstanding.

Marketing Strategy

XPRESS Transportation Services Incorporated will utilize the internet, telemarketing, television, radio

and door flyers to advertise its services, positioning services as a good value for its price. The business

targets automobile dealers, auctions and independent brokers. Ultimately, XPRESS seeks to establish

sturdy customer relations with its clients and expand through word-of-mouth.

Management expects to capture about 10% of the interior based transport and about 2% of the trucking

services for BOSAI Minerals Guyana Incorporated over the next four years.

Sales Strategy

XPRESS Transportation Services Incorporated is committed to offering the lowest price possible within

the transport industry. This market is largely driven by cost; thus, pricing is vitally important.

XPRESS’ pricing strategy is based on miles traveled and number of vehicles which will be two trucks

for at least two years until the loan with Republic Bank is paid is paid off; with the idea of expansion

being up to 8 trucks as the business deems necessary in the next six years. In order to keep up with the

constantly changing fuel prices, pricing for all products including trucking services will be reviewed

every 30-90 days.

Market Segmentation

Customers for this business are independent interior business (wholesale shops) and independent brokers

BOSAI Minerals Guyana Incorporated. Price and customer service are probably the two largest

determining factors for these individuals.
